13: Living By The Word of God – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: The best method of studying the Bible is of no use if we are not determined to live by what we learn from Scripture.

1. Have a volunteer read Philippians 2:12-16.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What are these verses saying about how we should live?
- Personal Application: How do we “hold fast” the word of life? What does this mean? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “What do we do with living according to the Word? Isn’t that salvation by works” Doesn’t God work in us to will and to do of His good will? Why does my will have to do with it?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read John 5:45-47.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What message does Jesus give us here about His relationship to the Bible?
- Personal Application: If people don’t accept the accounts given in Genesis by Moses, does that mean they can’t accept Jesus’ words also? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Are there any kep doctrines in the Christian church that are rooted in the Old Testament, or are all Christian doctrines originated in the New Testament?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Psalm 62:1,2,5.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What do these texts teach us about our prayer life?
- Personal Application: How often do we cry out to God rather than just going through our daily prayer routine? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “When is the best time for you for undisturbed prayer? How do you know that God listens to, hears, and is willing to answer your prayers?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Psalm 119:10,11.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How does hiding God’s Word in our hearts, our minds, help us keep from sinning?
- Personal Application: Is singing a good way to remember and learn Scripture? In what ways does it help? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
