What was Really Wrong With Sinai? — 10 Comments

  1. Exactly! Thank you William 🙂

God made some amazing promises to the children of Israel (e.g., 1 Peter 2:9) if they would only get out of the way and let God be God.

Doesn't this apply to us as well?

    • Amen . If we are obedient to God we will see the wonderful work in our lives. His promise is true.

  2. Yes that is exactly what is happening with us today Sieg we put trust in ourselves may God help us.

  3. Wow, Brother William, thanks for sharing this. I finally understand the text. Makes a lot of sense - the Hagar mentality.

  4. The Hagar mentality began with the fig leaves in Eden, and was also demonstrated in Cain's offering to the Lord. Unbelief will always lead us to the fatal path of self-reliance.

As God created this world knowing the path it would follow, He also brought Israel out of Egypt knowing that first generation would fail to believe. Yet the example of their unbelief is there for us to learn from, if we will.

Just one known, persistent departure from the "good, acceptable, and perfect will of God" will inevitably lead to unbelief.

  5. Amen! Thank you for helping me to understand clearly why the Israelites fail to obey after making such a promise to do all that God had commanded. I use to say to myself what was wrong with saying that.

  6. As someone commented in Sabbath School:
What they should have said is “Help us Lord, for we cannot do this on our own”.
I appreciate the approach you took William.
    Thanks for your weekly overview.

  7. Thank you Pastor Earnhardt for the insight on this very important and misunderstood subject. And as I read it, this text comes to mind that explains well what went wrong at Sinai, Romans 10:3 “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬
And that’s why in Rev 14:12 it says that in the end the Saints will keep the commandments and have the faith of Jesus.
And you can’t separate the two, because if you do, then you will have the two classes in the world.
    1. Those who are trying to keep the law on there own or working out their own salvation in some other way,
In which was what the Jews did.
    2. Or those who say the commandments, which tells us what sin is, where done away with and think they are saved in their sins and not from them.

So the answer is to abide in Christ by faith, which comes through His Word, see Rom 10:17, and He will write the law upon our hearts of flesh and not just stone, like He wanted so much to do for Israel if only that had truly seeked God.
