Monday: The Temptation of Egypt

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 1, 2022 by SSNET StaffApril 21, 2022avatar
A Woman Looking Into a Trap

Read Genesis 12:10-20. Why did Abram leave the Promised Land to go to Egypt? How did the pharaoh behave in comparison to Abram? Ironically, Abram, who had just arrived in the Promised Land, decides to leave it for Egypt because “there was a famine in the land” (Genesis 12:10, NKJV). Evidence of people from Canaan going into … Continue reading –>

6: The Roots of Abraham – Singing With Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 1, 2022 by Corinne KnopperMay 1, 2022avatar

The book of Genesis offers us so many and vast topics from which to choose a theme hymn. As we are starting at the very beginning, I would like to give praise to our Creator of heaven and earth in singing  Hymn 320 – Lord of Creation and  Hymn 2 – All Creatures of Our God … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Abram’s Departure

Woman on path the shape of a questio mark

Read Genesis 12:1-9. Why did God call Abram to leave his country and family? How did Abram respond? The last time that God had spoken to a person, at least as recorded in Scripture, it was with Noah, to reassure him after the Flood that He will establish a covenant with all flesh (Genesis 9:15-17) and that another … Continue reading –>

Further Thought: Read Ellen G. White, “The Tower of Babel,” Pages 117-124, in Patriarchs and Prophets. “They decided to build a city, and in it a tower of such stupendous height … These enterprises were designed to prevent the people from scattering abroad in colonies. God had directed men to disperse throughout the earth, to replenish … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Redemption of the Exile

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 27, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonApril 15, 2022avatar
People Scattered

Read Genesis 11:8-9,  and Genesis 9:1; compare with Genesis 1:28. Why is God’s dispersion redemptive? God’s design and blessing for humans was that they would “multiply, and fill the earth” (Genesis 9:1, NKJV; compare with Genesis 1:28, NKJV). Against God’s plan, the builders of Babel preferred to stick together as the same people. One reason they said they wanted to build … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
