Key Thought: Jesus recognized that the world needed a demonstration of the gospel as well as its proclamation. A Christ-like life is a powerful testimony to our witness.

1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 5:13,14.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- Why did Jesus use salt and light to describe His followers?
- Personal Application: How are we to understand being separate from the world? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “How can we be in this world, but not of the world? Are we to avoid everyone and everything and live like a hermit or monk to keep ourselves pure?” How would you respond to your relative and what Bible texts would you share?
2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 8:5-10.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What response did Jesus give here that gave hope to this man?
- Personal Application: Why is how we say something as important as what we say? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why did Jesus heal the Samaritans as well as the Jews? Wasn’t He sent to save the lost sheep of Israel? What was His ultimate purpose in healing people?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Matthew 4:23-25.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What threefold approach formed the basis for Christ’s ministry?
- Personal Application: Is it possible to live the abundant life Jesus offers if you are poor or sick? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why do some people claim God’s promises and get the answers they ask, while other people claim God’s promises, but don’t get any answers? How does faith play a part in our reception of His promises?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Matthew 25:31-46.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How does Jesus describe genuine Christianity?
- Personal Application: Have you ever said something that was true or needed, but you said it in the wrong way? What did you learn from that experience? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
