1. Have a volunteer read Exodus 18:21-25.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What advice did Jethro give Moses that made a great difference for him?
- Personal Application: Why is it vitally important to develop small groups in the church? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Have you ever been in a small group working for a common goal? What did you learn from that experience that can help in our use of small groups in the context of our faith?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 12:12-25.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- How does the human body provide an excellent illustration of working together in small groups?
- Personal Application: What kinds of activities could a small group be involved? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Ideally small groups might be a good idea in getting things done, but I’ve learned that if every member doesn’t do their part, the task doesn’t get done and the bond breaks down. Everyone has to do their part willingly, or it all falls apart.?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Acts 16:11-15, Acts 18:1-5.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why did Luke list some of the names with whom Paul worked closely?
- Personal Application: What invitations have you had when presenting the gospel to someone? What are the benefits and challenges to studying with a group versus individual Bible study? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “I was in a small group, but it didn’t function correctly. Meetings were changed, postponed, members didn’t always come, and eventually it died out. It was always at the church.” How would you respond to your neighbor, and what suggestions would you give to make a small group more effective?
4. Have a volunteer read Acts 4:31; 12:12; 20:17-19…
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What are some of the different elements to these small groups?
- Personal Application: Why is it important that small groups keep an outward, mission focus? Why should they always keep connected with the local church body? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
