11: The Christian and Work – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Work is God’s idea. Before sin, God gave Adam and Eve the task of caring for the Garden. They were employed in creative labor and loving service.

A. Have a volunteer read Ecclessiastes 3:12,13.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- How do people find satisfaction in their work?
- Personal Application: What do you do? That is, what are you doing with your life, and how can you better glorify God by doing it? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “I thought work was a curse upon Adam? Can work be considered as both a blessing and a curse?“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Exodus 25:18-21.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- How particular was God when He asked Moses to build the tabernacle of service?
- Personal Application: How particular are you in doing your work? Does it reflect the ideal that God has for His servants? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “How can we focus on our work as being important if it is boring, mindless, repetitive work? It may be something we have to do to make money, but it doesn’t bring us happiness. How can we gain any spiritual growth in it?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read Galatians 5:22-26.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What gifts does Paul describe here that also describe you and your work?
- Personal Application: How do you manifest your own spirituality in the day to day chores in your life? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “How can we pass on a positive attitude about work to our families, especially our children?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read Eccl. 9:10, I Cor. 10:31..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What is the message about how we should work and educate people to work?
- Personal Application: Do you tend to separate your spiritual life from your work and play? How can we allow spirituality reign in all that we do? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
