1. Have a volunteer read Philippians 2:5-11.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- How do these verses reveal Christ’s thinking and the pattern that governed His life
- Personal Application: When was the last time you actually had to sacrifice something for Christ’s sake? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Since Jesus is the Son of God, the only begotten of God, and came out from God; then there must have been a time when He didn’t exist. Maybe long before the earth was created?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 4:18-20.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why were Peter and John willing to make such a radical commitment to follow Christ
- Personal Application: What things is God asking us to give up in order to follow Him? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Some people are willing to give up years of their lives in foreign missions. They leave the comforts of home to live among people of a different culture, language, and lifestyle to reach them for Christ. What kind of missions can we have where we are at? What kind of sacrifices do we have to make here?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Acts 9:10-20..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How do these verses reveal that Jesus had a divine purpose for Paul’s life?
- Personal Application: What has God called you to do? Does He have a purpose for your life? Are you doing it? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “I would witness but I don’t know what to say. I’m afraid that I’ll br rejected or embarrassed if I try to witness.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read John 21:18,19.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why did Jesus tell Peter about the cost of discipleship?
- Personal Application: What are some counterfeit forms of love that have little to do with agape love? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
