13: The Everlasting Gospel – Lesson Plan
Key Thought : We are indeed saved by faith which works by love and purified the soul. Every second God is using all His power, grace, and mercy to reconcile us to Him.
[Lesson plan for The Everlasting Gospel December 29, 2014]
1. Have a volunteer read Luke 15:29-32.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What had to take place in the son’s heart before he could return home? Why?
c. Personal Application: Is there anyone in your family that has wandered away and you are hoping will come to their senses and come home to Christ? How would that make you feel? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Doesn’t the older brother have a valid argument? He stayed faithful and never turned away: shouldn’t that be cause for celebration moreso than the one who wasted his fortune in worldly foolishness and repented when he was on the bottom? Isn’t it better to obey than sacrifice?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Romans 1:16,17 and 2 Corinthians 3:14-16.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What is the veil over the Jews’ faces?
c. Personal Application: Are there SDA’s who might have a veil over their faces as well? Why might this be so? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why does Paul say the gospel is the power to salvation to the Jew firsat and also to the Greek? Why does he put the Jews first?.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 8:8-11.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What do these Scriptures tell us was wrong with the old covenant? Why did it need to be changed?
c. Personal Application: How have you hid the law of God in your heart? What is your biggest challenge in commandment-keeping? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why does this say we won’t teach our neighbor? Isn’t teaching one of the Spiritual gifts? Don’t people need to be taught and led to Christ? What does this mean?” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Revelation 14:12.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does patience mean here and how does it relate to faith and commandment-keeping?
c. Personal Application: How can we keep from falling into either legalism or into cheap grace that excuses our sins? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
