2: Death in a Sinful World – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: God had given Adam and Eve restrictions and warnings before sin entered into the world. Because of the fall, sin and death took over the world, but God planted a seed of hope for humanity in Eden.

1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 3: 1-7.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What criteria did Eve use to choose between God’s word and the serpent’s?
- Personal Application: Why might Satan’s words be convincing to Eve when he was talking with her?. Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Aren’t there a lot of people with convincing words and reasons to do that which is against God’s Word? How do we keep from being persuaded to do wrong and try to make excuses for our wrong actions?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Genesis 3:4.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What are some of the ways this lie has been repeated through the ages?
- Personal Application: In what ways has this lie been integrated with your culture and daily living even today? Share your thoughts
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “I believe after seeing so many patients die in hospice that the soul leaves the body at death, and the expressions of peace and relief on so many faces seem to confirm my belief.” How would you respond to your friend?

- Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “Isn’t it true that if you sin and ask forgiveness, you are forgiven? Then if a person sins and asks forgiveness, there is no justice or consequences for their sins. I don’t understand how that is fair or just.” How would you respond to your relative?
