“Give Me That Old Time Religion”

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 26, 2011 by Stephen TerryJuly 5, 2013avatar

“If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.” Deuteronomy 28:1, NIV Many people like to speak of “the good old days” as an idyllic time of innocence that was free of … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Gospel in the Old Testament

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 25, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 20, 2014avatar

“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ‘In you shall all the nations be blessed’” (Gal. 3:8, ESV). Paul writes that not only was the gospel preached to Abraham, but it was God who preached it; so, it must have been the true … Continue reading –>

What Is a Covenant?

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 24, 2011 by Tyler ClutheJanuary 29, 2015avatar

In this sin-ridden world we, keeping a promise is not looked upon with much respect. Therefore, in order for society to insure that promises would be kept, man has devised simple ways to enforce such things. Two of those ways are the ancient covenant and today’s contract. The difference between the two of them basically … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Reckoned as Righteous

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 24, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 20, 2014avatar

Why do you think Paul first appeals to Abraham as he looks to the Scriptures to validate his gospel message? (Gal. 3:6).” Abraham was a central figure in Judaism. Not only was he the father of the Jewish race, but Jews in Paul’s time also looked to him as the prototype of what a true … Continue reading –>

Monday: Grounded in Scripture

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 22, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 20, 2014avatar

So far, in his letter to the Galatians, Paul has defended his gospel of justification by faith by appealing to the agreement reached with the apostles in Jerusalem (Gal. 2:1–10) and to the personal experience of the Galatians themselves (Gal. 3:1–5). Beginning in Galatians 3:6, Paul now turns to the testimony of Scripture for the … Continue reading –>

Sunday: The Foolish Galatians

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 22, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 20, 2014avatar

Read Galatians 3:1–5. Summarize below what Paul is saying to them. In what sense could we be in danger of falling into the same spiritual pitfall, of starting out right and then falling into legalism? Several modern translations have tried to capture the sense of Paul’s words in verse 1 about the “foolish” Galatians. The … Continue reading –>

Further Study: Justification by Faith Alone

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 20, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonSeptember 9, 2014avatar

“The danger has been presented to me again and again of entertaining, as a people, false ideas of justification by faith. I have been shown for years that Satan would work in a special manner to confuse the mind on this point. The law of God has been largely dwelt upon and has been presented … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Those Dreaded Adventists

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 20, 2011 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 5, 2015avatar

Rudy Micelli grew up in a musical Christian family in Brazil. He’s sung praises to God since he was a child. Often he would pretend to sing along with a favorite recording, and as he grew older, singing for God became his passion. While studying some religion classes, Rudy took a class on cults. There … Continue reading –>

04: Holding On in the Flood – Discussion Questions

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 19, 2011 by Joyce GriffithFebruary 10, 2017Joyce Griffith

The river had been well past flood stage for days, and as darkness settled on the streets and rooftops of the city that night, the wind picked up and howled its fearful message that destruction had arrived. A board worked its way loose outside Sam’s apartment on second floor and crashed against the street light. … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
