Inside Story: Unexpected Change of Heart — 4 Comments

  1. Dose this mean..as God delayed to answer our prayers, needs and wants. If we keep on requesting and praying one day he might act the same?how long time is a long time...why the closer you go to HIM the painer it becomes...( from kabete sda kenya)

    • I still have the same questions as I am balancing my prayer life. How many times can I pray for one thing? Until I feel it's enough? Is praying too many times on the same thing a sign of lack of faith?

We held a youth prayer week sometime last year (2023), and a friend asked if she can pray that I find a future wife. I said no, I have stopped praying for a wife. I am more prayerful on business and family. Of course that surprised her.

How long shall we pray for one thing?

      • Sometimes I think we need to change our prayers. As an early student I used to pray that I would pass my examinations until one of my friends told me that it would be a good idea to ask the Lord to help me organise my time and study more efficiently and spend less time reading camera magazines. Point taken - I needed to change if I wanted the Lord to answer my prayers.

      • I'm no expert, but perhaps it depends on what we are praying for.

If we are praying for things that are part of God's known will such as our spiritual growth or the salvation of an unbeliever, I would keep praying for those things.

Other things may not be God's will. I'm not saying that we shouldn't pray for them as God may bring them in His time, but we don't want to be pushing our wants on God either. Perhaps in the example you gave with the person praying for a wife, perhaps broadening the prayer would be good such as for relationships or to have the right qualities that might prepare one for marriage. That allows God to answer the prayer but in the way He knows best. He may provide a wife or He may better allow someone to live productively as a single. That's probably the way I would approach situations like that.
