1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 5:3-11.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What are some of the problems and consequences with sexual activity before marriage or an extramarital affair as shown in Proverbs 5?
- Personal Application: What counsel would you give someone who may be struggling with sexual temptations that could destroy a marriage? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “This is a new age. Premarital sex is a normal fact of life and we should get used to it and accept it, not be priggish like the Puritans. It is better that they have sex before they get married so that they don’t find out after they’re married that they are not compatible.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 13:22-24.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What character traits of fathers may have long term consequences for children, good or bad?
- Personal Application: Have your actions, either good or bad, impacted others, especially children? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “If you yell at your children or spank them, you are guilty of child abuse. You have to be patient and tolerate and let your child have his right to explore and learn on his own.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 21:9,19; 27:15,16..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What principals of not having a meek and quiet spirit lead women to be contentious and brawling?
- Personal Application: The quarterly presents these texts as Solomon having a sense of humor. Do these texts show the truth of sinful humans or is it Solomons attempt at humor, or both? Share your thoughts
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “What are some of the cultural attitudes concerning the family that conflict with Biblical principles of family life?” How would you reply to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:10-14.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What qualities are listed for praise for a wife?
- Personal Application: What virtues and abilities would you list besides those above in describing a woman who has influenced your life? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
