13: Israel in Egypt – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 20, 2022 by Michael FrackerJune 20, 2022Michael Fracker

Key Thought: Even though Israel living in Egypt contrasts with the hope of the promised land, Joseph points to another place where God will bring them to the land sworn to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. June 25, 2022 1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 47:23-26. Ask class members to share a short thought on what … Continue reading –>

13: Israel in Egypt – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 20, 2022 by Corinne KnopperJune 20, 2022avatar

The book of Genesis offers us so many vast topics from which to choose a theme hymn. As we are starting at the very beginning, I would like to give praise to our Creator of heaven and earth in singing Hymn 320 – Lord of Creation and  Hymn 2 – All Creatures of Our God and … Continue reading –>

Monday: Jacob Settles in Egypt

Joseph and Brothers Before Pharoah

It’s very interesting how, despite all that Jacob had been told about Joseph’s being alive in Egypt, the Lord still gave him “visions of the night” (Genesis 46:2) and in them commanded him to leave. Jacob leaves the Land of Promise for, of all places, Egypt — which later becomes associated with the one place that God’s … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Jacob Goes to Joseph

Jacob and Joseph Reunion

Read Genesis 46:1-34. What is the significance of Jacob’s departure from Canaan? When Jacob leaves his place in Canaan, he is full of hope. The assurance that he will no longer be hungry and the good news that Joseph is alive must have given him the momentum that he needed to leave the Promised Land. Jacob’s … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Thought ~ Joseph, Prince of Egypt

Spectacles on Bible

Further Thought: Ellen G. White, “Joseph in Egypt,” Pages 213-223; “Joseph and His Brothers,” Pages 224-232 in Patriarchs and Prophets. “The three days of confinement were days of bitter sorrow with Jacob’s sons. They reflected upon their past wrong course, especially their cruelty to Joseph. They knew if they were convicted of being spies, and they could … Continue reading –>

Thursday: “I am Joseph Your Brother”

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 15, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
Joseph and His Brothers

Read Genesis 45:1-28. What lessons of love, faith, and hope can be found in this story? It is at that very moment, when Judah talked about the “evil” that would fall upon ’avi, “my father” (Genesis 44:34), that Joseph “cried out” (Genesis 45:1, NKJV) and then “made himself known” to his brothers. This expression, often used to refer to God’s self-revelation (Exodus … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Divination Cup

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 14, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
The Reunion of Joseph and Benjamin

Read Genesis 44:1-34. Why did Joseph put the divination cup in Benjamin’s sack and not in another brother’s sack? This story parallels the preceding one. As before, Joseph gives specific instructions; and, once again, he fills the men’s sacks with food. This time, however, Joseph adds the strange command to put his precious cup in Benjamin’s … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
