Thursday: Isaiah’s Personal Yom Kippur

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 6, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

In Isaiah 6:1-6, Isaiah sees the heavenly King sitting on a throne in the temple, “high and exalted.” The vision is a judgment scene that presents God as coming for judgment (Isa. 5:16). Isaiah beholds the true King, identified in the Gospel of John as Jesus Christ (John 12:41). Even though Isaiah was God’s prophet … Continue reading –>

[Thought questions for The Day of Atonement November 6, 2013] 1. Our High Priest.  Who were the only two human participants in the Day of Atonement? Why were the other priests required to leave the immediate area? Can you think of at least one reason why the priest performed every ritual alone? What did the laying … Continue reading –>

Above and Beyond

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 5, 2013 by Lillianne LopezFebruary 27, 2018avatar

I spent some time looking for a good example of atonement, this week. It was more difficult than I expected because so many of the examples I found equate atonement with forgiveness – synonyms. I have to admit, that I have thought of them as the same as well. But when I look at the … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 5, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

“Thus in the ministration of the tabernacle, and of the temple that afterward took its place, the people were taught each day the great truths relative to Christ’s death and ministration, and once each year their minds were carried forward to the closing events of The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan, the final purification … Continue reading –>

Read Leviticus 16:20-22. What happened to the live goat? The ritual with the live goat was not an offering. After the lot decided which of the two goats was to be for Yahweh and which one was for Azazel (often translated as “scapegoat”), only the goat for Yahweh is referred to as a purification offering … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
