Intimations of Hope – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: This lesson dwells in the hope of a resurrection. The reason for this hope can be found only in the resurrection of Jesus Christ..
1. Have a volunteer read Job 13:3-10.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What was Job saying here to his friends and their approach to him?
c. Personal Application : When was the last time you said things that were wrong and shouldn’t have said? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “I don’t think the church is immune from gossip, judgmentalism, and even back-biting and slander. How does this kind of activity affect the church and its members?” How would you respond to your relatives?
2. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:11-20.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does Christ’s resurrection have to do with John’s suffering?
c. Personal Application : Why is praise so important in helping us to stay hopeful in the Lord? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Of all your church’s teachings, which ones do you find to be the most hopeful?.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read I Peter 1:18-20.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does this passage do for you in terms of hope?
c. Personal Application: Why is it so easy to get discouraged by events, even with so much hope presented to us? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “How could Christ have been foreordained before the foundation of the world?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Job 13:15.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How did Job retain his faith in God amid all that happened to him?
c. Personal Application : How can you find hope in a situation where all the solutions have failed and there doesn’t seem to be any way out? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
