  4. Dear Corinne and sk hateka,
I can't help jumping in again with this one. I personally do not know hymn 617 'We Are living, We Are Dwelling', but 'Let the Lower Lights be Burning' is one of our favourite hymns on Norfolk Island among all the churches. No doubt left over from the whaling days when American whalers used to visit our shores in the late 1800's. It is one of the hymns we sing after the Church of England 1662 service where it is taught to the mainland visitors we often have.
I remember my Grandad who had been a whaler himself, telling me of an old 90 year old, one time who indeed lit a large bonfire he had built, so local whalers could see where the land was, then ran down the steep cliff to meet the men. He had been worried because the whaleboat had not been sighted for over 24 hours after going out for a whale: - I keep this in mind when singing the hymn: Likewise, Jesus is the light of the world. Happy New Year and Godbless today. Mrs A Stolz.

  5. Ah, what a great way to remember such a wonderful hymn, Mrs Stolz.

I do hope you have someone in your church who is able to play the different hymns that we are able to present each week. Maybe you will find some new favourite hymns to sing in the future.

I have played right through our church hymnal so many times and love to read the poetry of the hymns.

Those lower lights need to keep burning so others around us see Jesus all the time. I do hope we are able to do that so that the beautiful Land of Heaven may be seen by those who are searching.

What a wonderful time it will be when in Heaven we will sing in the choirs there, or play in the orchestra. I cannot wait for that time!!!

God's blessings to you on the beautiful Norfolk Island, Mrs Stolz.
    Happy New Year to you.
    Corinne
