Lessons From Jeremiah December 19 – 25, 2015
Key Thought : Jeremiah’s theme is God’s character and human misconceptions and misrepresentations of it. God wants our hearts.
1. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 6:20.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What were the popular distortions of God’s character during Jeremiah’s time?
c. Personal Application : Do church members tend to be lax in their commandment keeping because they are Sabbath-keepers? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Is God a stern and harsh judge who is out to get us when we do wrong?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 9:23,24.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean to know God and understand Him?
c. Personal Application : How can we make sure we are doing everything we can to uplift and encourage others? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Do your church members tend to be loving and accepting of others, or do they tend to be hard on those who make mistakes?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 10:1-5.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What was one of the great sins the people committed that Jeremiah had to deal with continually?
c. Personal Application: What are some things that we can be in danger of making into idols? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “What does it mean not to learn the customs of the Gentiles? What customs do we have in our culture and society today that could be in conflict with our Christian faith and living?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 23:1-4.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What was the problem of the leaders in Jeremiah’s day?
c. Personal Application: Do you look at Jeremiah as a winner or a loser? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
