Singing with Inspiration – Lesson 8: The Impact of Tithing
There are two hymns in the SDA Hymnal that have the word “Tithe” in them:
Hymn 634, “Come, All Christians, Be Committed” and
Hymn 639, “A Diligent and Grateful Heart”.
“Tithing is an important expression of faith” is in the first line of the introduction to this week’s lesson study: There is quite a listing of hymns expressing the topic of faith:
Hymn 304, “Faith of Our Fathers”,
Hymn 517, “My Faith Looks Up to Thee”,
Hymn 523, “My Faith Has Found a Resting Place”,
Hymn 533, “O for a Faith” and
Hymn 602, “O Brother, Be Faithful”, just to name a few.
On Sunday Jesus commands us to “preach the gospel”:
Hymn 378, “Go, Preach My Gospel” or
Hymn 368, “Watchman, Blow the Gospel Trumpet”.
Monday God promises us great blessings:
Hymn 195, “Showers of Blessings” or
Hymn 334, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”, or
Hymn 407, “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing”.
“The greatest blessing tithing teaches us is to trust in God”:
Hymn 279 “Only Trust Him”,
Hymn 524, “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”,
Hymn 535, “I Am Trusting Thee, Lord Jesus” and
Hymn 590, “Trust and Obey”.
At the close of the week’s study we are reminded that “salvation is a gift given to the undeserving”. Oh what grace:
Hymn 108, “Amazing Grace” and
Hymn 109, “Marvelous Grace”.
Mark 8:36, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
