The Reformation Continues Until the Whole Earth Sees the Goodness of God — 6 Comments

  1. Thank you, William, for the valuable reminder that the Reformation is not finished until the character of Christ is demonstrated in His people.

I highly recommend the book, Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World, by Eric Metaxas, to our readers.

It is hard to overestimate the impact Martin Luther had on our world, and I believe the reason for that impact lay in his unswerving dedication to the work of God. His story reminds me of what Ellen White wrote more than 300 years after he died:

"There is no limit to the usefulness of the one who, putting self aside, makes room for the working of the Holy Spirit upon his heart and lives a life wholly consecrated to God." Christian Service, page 254

  2. Some context for posting the 95 Theses on October 31 which I find interesting:
October 31 was the religious vigil of All Saints/ All Hallows' Eve, a key part of the Catholic calendar. This was followed by a major feast on November 1, drawing pilgrims and clergy to Wittenberg

The church doors functioned as a local bulletin board, and posting the 95 Theses on the eve of October 31 ensured maximum visibility for the crowds that would gather the next day.

The sale of indulgences also peaked on All Saints' Day which focused on the dead, and buyers of indulgences wanted to release their loved ones from purgatory. Luther's Theses contained a blistering attack on the sale of indulgences.

  3. Thanks for this post, William – I did not know the 31st of October was celebrated as ‘Reformation Day’. I have never come across any public announcement to acknowledge this momentous day in Christian history and wonder why ‘celebrating’ this important day in the reformed Christian movement has found little resonance.

A few thoughts came to mind:
To post his '95 Theses', Luther might have chosen this particular day on purpose – exposing among other truths the pagan roots tied to Christian celebrations. Originally called ‘Samhain’, the ancient Celtic festival observing the Summer Solstice on that day. It was celebrated by lighting bonfires and wearing costumes to ward off spirits. The spirit guiding 'Church and state' moved to observe it on the eve before ‘All Saints’/Soul’’ Day - Nov. 1st. It has become known as ‘All Hallows’ Eve’ and eventually celebrated as Halloween.

Combining Pagen rites and Christian ‘holy-days' are accepted to this day. Why are Christians so gullible, so easily led to accept God’s adversary's 'slight of hand'? Has the 'Reformation' enlightend us to see through this scheme, or do we turn the other way and continue 'traditions' unquestioned?

Why has the Christian leadership not taken up the ‘Armor of God’ to fight to preserve the knowledge of the Power of the Holy Spirit to lead us to discern God’s Truth relevant to our life - revealing spiritual pitfalls and falsehoods embedded by traditions?

How can we assume to know God if no importance is placed on teaching the need to be ‘guided by the Holy Spirit’ in what we think and do? The age of 'spiritual dakrness' has passed, though it appears that we have not gained the freedom which being in Christ promisses all who come to Him. His Spirit appears to still be held captive by observing old rules, dogma, rituals, festivals, and outward signs demanding ‘sainthood’ through ‘obedience of the flesh’ – all part and parcel of the adversary of God’s deceptions.

I want to ask a few important questions regarding the benefits of the Reformation having opened the door to gain access to the Holy Spirit denied so long by the ruling class of church and state; or are we still held in bondage?
“How can the world be guided by spiritual Truth if we, the ‘elect’, do not strife to satisfy the need to look to the Holy Spirit for guidance before approaching 'non-believers'?”
“How can we prepare people for Christ’s Second Coming’ without asking guidance from the inspiration by the Holy Spirit?
“Where, in what, or how do we find the only true source of God’s all-revealing Light – the Holy Spirit - the only Light capable of leading us to understand God’s Truth if we keep ignoring it - hiding it ‘under a bushel? Mark 4:21-25; Luke 11:32-34.

  4. Thank you Pastor William for the message of truth because that has always been the big question even with the angels and unfallen worlds until the cross, then they understood. And we are told how it’s the cross that speaks the love of the God head for man because it was the Father who put Him there because He loved man so much as said in Jn 3:16.
I like how you mentioned the two subjects that also shows His love for man and touched on the one that has really given God a black eye or a wrong view of God and that is the truth of Hell and how God will burn those who are lost forever when that is not the case. I have always used Malachi 4:3 to show how this can not be but now God led me to a text that explains where he’ll is and it’s in Rev 20:9 in which is says the fire burns them up on the breath of the earth, where the righteous are going to live.
Now here is why the Sabbath is so important in realizing God’s love for man. So many do not realize where they came from, why they are here and where they are going. But the Sabbath answers all three because man was created and the Sabbath reminds us of that but it also tells what for, a relationship with a loving God but sin broke that connection the Sabbath links us back. God just led me to this info below of which is done with AI but it the message not the pictures that enlightened me and convicted me to be more serious with the Sabbath realizing that it’s the portal to heaven and the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. This brought confession and asking for the blessing of being open to messages from God and I did experience it. And like it says Satan will attack in six ways of which I have been really experiencing lately.
So I hope you will be blessed by this message below. I felt like King Josiah, who found out new light from God and tore his clothes realizing the mercies of God and wanting to do right.
God bless you and everyone as we live to glorify God and show that love He has for humanity. After all we are told that is what God is waiting for, is to see His réfection in His people for it will justify Him to harvest the earth. That’s in COL.

  5. I have come to believe that there are two traits that Gods people will have during the time of Rev 18:1. The trait of Moses and Elijah. Having a love for others that you are willing to loose your eternal life to see others saved (the same trait Jesus showed on the cross). And Elijah, God working through you to turn the hearts of the children ("My people")to the father.
