Truth is not a Popularity Contest — 5 Comments

  1. Absolutely! We are called to unity, not uniformity. I think of Eph. 4:3-6 ESV: "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

    As we press toward a closer relationship with Jesus, we will live more and more in His light and will become of one mind, the mind of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, ... not through a policing of each other or relying upon an "official" denomination position for a list of doctrines, especially as a requirement for baptism into Christ's body.

    Thank you so much for all of your posts, Pr. William, I truly am blessed and encouraged by them each week!

  2. Brother William, yes I do agree absolutely to what you emphasize in your post.
    Not only as you quoted :
    „During the Dark Ages, when people did not have access to the Bible, people trusted their priests to tell them what they believed, and because of that there was a lot of brainwashing going on“
    but even sadly enough while studying the Bible with other Christian denominations I experience partakers still stick to the popular teachings of their church and their pastors, as though it were a matter of „corporate identity“ without which they feel left out. However the truth never leaves you out but includes you to become part of the remnants.

    Thank you and God bless.

  3. So true Pastor Williams, as you stated, “it’s not a popularity contest this statement came to mind.

    “ Praise and flattery would be pleasing to their ears; but the truth is unwelcome; they cannot hear it. When the crowds follow, and the multitudes are fed, and the shouts of triumph are heard, their voices are loud in praise; but when the searching of God’s Spirit reveals their sin, and bids them leave it, they turn their backs upon the truth, and walk no more with Jesus. – {Ellen White, "Desire of Ages" 392.3}

    And isn’t it something how the text which talks about the 70 leaving Jesus because of His Words about eating His flesh, which is the Word, is in John 6:66 it something how when we lean on human reasoning it will lead to the mark of a man who puts himself in the place of God and does not listen to truth which is God’s Word.

  4. I have read your story of the pastor who invited a family member to give his thoughts at the funeral of his loved one. This last Sabbath our pastor incorporated it into his sermon as an illistration of his, of sometimes even though we have people bring up their thoughts it does not mean they are always correct, and who are we to judge so quickly. Let's get to know them before we make corrections, with the gentleness of the Holy Spirit. You, William Earnhardt, have wide reaching sermons. I do believe that if we are to finish the work, letting the Holy Spirit use us rather than us using the Holy Spirit, we are justified in using all of modern technology that is available to let us be used. The technology at hand is advantageous to us.

    I do remember one of the 1st evangilism series to go to the whole world that had access to satellite broadcast was about 27 years ago. Dwight D. Nelson preached on the Sabbath. He broke a wine glass and said if you brake one, you brake them all. As the wine glass went into ten pieces, the illustration sunk in.
