When Self-Confidence Is Shattered — 3 Comments

  1. Amen. If your witness of Gods love seen through you could accept this paragraph by a contemporary writer. He would see the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

How, then, are we to be saved? “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,” so the Son of man has been lifted up, and everyone who has been deceived and bitten by the serpent may look and live. “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29. The light shining from the cross reveals the love of God. His love is drawing us to Himself. If we do not resist this drawing, we shall be led to the foot of the cross in repentance for the sins that have crucified the Saviour. Then the Spirit of God through faith produces a new life in the soul. The thoughts and desires are brought into obedience to the will of Christ. The heart, the mind, are created anew in the image of Him who works in us to subdue all things to Himself. Then the law of God is written in the mind and heart, and we can say with Christ, “I delight to do Thy will, O my God.” Psalm 40:8.

I often look at the life I am living, and invision whether that thought and/or that attitude would be fit for Heaven. Then I pray Lord, take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for Thee. Save me in spite of myself, my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere, where the rich current of Thy love can flow through my soul.

  2. Beautifully expressed, William. Glory to God! Galatians 5:17 has long puzzled me, but your question has brought clarity.

"When the Spirit wars against the flesh is it the good things or the bad things we cannot do?"

It's the bad things, which suggests that "wish" might have been a poor word choice in the NKJV. You do not do the things that you would.

  3. Praise the Lord for these beautiful insights! As I read through this I knew I was going to have to leave a comment. I was going to mention Philippians 3: 3, but at the end of the article, you already referenced it. We all need a healthy helping of self distrustfulness. Our trust is to be in the Lord alone. Thank you William for the encouraging thoughts.
