Which Came First? — 1 Comment

  1. I had been thinking about this for the past couple of weeks. I had been aware of the similarity in the two-chamber temples that are much older than the exodus.

One possibility is that God used a pattern that was already in use, and of which people would have a familiarity, to reveal something different about Himself.

The other possibility, and one to which I lean, is that satan, aware of the heavenly sanctuary, anticipated the revelation of that sanctuary and preemptively inspired fake temples and worship in an effort to further confuse people when God's genuine revelation was to take place. Without knowledge of which lineage from Noah God would choose, Ham's and Japheth's descendants introduced other forms of worship.

With all of this, the bottom line is that the difference between Israel's temple and the surrounding nations' temples is not primarily in architecture, but in theology.

Lastly, the instructions for the priests to wear undergarments (Ex 28:39-43) also separate the type of service at God's temple, in contrast with the...naked activities occurring in false worship.
