06: Women in Ministry – Lesson Plan
Key Thought : Women can do in families a work that men cannot do, a work that reaches the inner life. They can come close to the hearts of those men cannot reach.
[Lesson Plan for Women in the Ministry of Jesus May 4, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Luke 2:36-38.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why does Luke more than any other gospel writer emphasize the role played by women in Christ’s ministry?
c. Personal Application: How dedicated are we to fasting and prayer and sharing not only the plan of salvation, but also end time events with others? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “What is the definition of a prophetess? Did she foretell the future, or preach in Christ’s name, or evangelize, or give Bible studies?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Luke 7:44-50.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What can we learn from the woman’s expression of gratitude and faith?
c. Personal Application: How can we keep ourselves from being judgmental and exacting toward others? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “What does Jesus telling the woman that her sins are forgiven tell us about Him and the act of forgiveness?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Luke 10:38-42.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What spiritual lessons can we glean from this story?
c. Personal Application: How do we keep ourselves from complaining about others seeming lack of effort in pulling their weight in the church activities? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “I tend to side with Martha. She’s slaving and serving to fix meals and care for the people, and Mary is just sitting and listening. Like potluck, some work in the kitchen to help while others just sit and talk. Mary should be doing her part of the work too.” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Luke Luke 18:1-8.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is the main purpose for this parable?
c. Personal Application: How persistent and earnest are you in your prayer life in pleading with God? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
