Tuesday: The Value of Intercession

People Praying

Read Daniel 9:5-13. What is significant about the fact that Daniel keeps on saying that “we” have done wrong, thereby including himself in the sins that ultimately have brought such calamity to the nation? Daniel’s prayer is just one among other significant intercessory prayers contained in the Bible. Such prayers touch God’s heart, staving off judgment … Continue reading –>

Key Thought: Daniel 9 gives light to the vision in Daniel 8 and the time when Messiah would show up and confirm the starting point of the 2300 days. March 7, 2020 1. Have a volunteer read Daniel 9:1-11. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text … Continue reading –>

Prophet Praying

Read Daniel 9:3-19. On what basis does Daniel make his plea for mercy? We should especially note a few points in this prayer. First, nowhere in Daniel’s prayer is he asking for any kind of explanation for the calamities that happened to the Jewish people. He knows the reason. Indeed, the bulk of the prayer consists … Continue reading –>

Open Bible

Read Daniel 9:1-2. Daniel says that he “understood by books” the prophecy he is studying so carefully. What book or books of the Bible does he mean? As we look into this prayer, it becomes clear that it arises from an in-depth study of God’s previous revelation to Moses and the prophets. Having learned from Jeremiah’s … Continue reading –>

George Cobb Tombstone

Testimony From the Tomb By Andrew McChesney, Adventist Mission George Cobb is the man who died twice. Little is actually known about Cobb, and no photos of him are known to exist. But his grave has attracted attention for decades because his tombstone in a cemetery in Brunswick in the U.S. state of Maine bears … Continue reading –>

Chart of Kingdoms

Further Thought:  Below is a chart summarizing what we have looked at so far regarding the sequence of kingdoms depicted in Daniel chapters 2, 7, and 8. What does this tell us about the cleansing of the sanctuary? As we can see here, there are parallels between the chapters. Not only are the nations depicted … Continue reading –>

The Cleansing of the Sanctuary in Light of the Cross

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 26, 2020 by William EarnhardtMarch 4, 2020avatar

When people ask me why Adventists do not keep the feast days, I tell them we do – literally! At the cross we had the literal Passover. Ever since 1844 we have been living in the literal Day of Atonement. When Jesus returns it will literally be the Feast of Trumpets. As Colossians 2:14-17  points … Continue reading –>

The Cross

Read Daniel 8:13. What is the question asked here, and how does it help us understand the answer in the next verse? What is the timing of the 2,300 evenings and mornings? First, we must note that after Daniel is shown the ram and the goat, followed by the actions of and the damage caused by … Continue reading –>

Jesus the High Priest Interceding

Read Daniel 8:14. What happens here? After the devastating attack of the horn, the announcement is made that the sanctuary will be cleansed. In order to understand this message, we must bear in mind that the cleansing of the sanctuary mentioned in Daniel 8:14 corresponds to the judgment scene depicted in Daniel 7:9-14. And since that judgment takes place … Continue reading –>

The hymn that will be used as the theme for this quarter is from “The Church Hymnal, Official Hymnal of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church” which was surpassed by the “Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal” in 1985.In the ‘old’ hymnal,  Number 497 – Standing by a Purpose True, that is, ”Dare to be a Daniel” will be the … Continue reading –>

09: From Contamination to Purification – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 25, 2020 by Joyce GriffithFebruary 25, 2020Joyce Griffith

How alike? How different? Before we take up the study of Daniel 8, let’s look at Daniel 7 and focus on how the two chapters are different from each other even though both deal with similar content. But first, what is missing in Daniel 8 that was emphasized in Daniel 7? Second, what is the … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
