[Teaching plan for The Safeguard of Revival August 19, 2013]

1. Have a volunteer read Psalm 119:49,50.

a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Can you have true revival without respect and reverence to God’s law?
c. Personal Application : How can we differentiate between revival and legalism and ritualism? Can revival bring legalism? Share.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: We have a revival meeting in our church, and the evangelist is speaking against the law as a bondage to Christians who are free from the law and all its legal requirements. We walk now by faith in the Spirit..” How would you respond to your relative?

2. Have a volunteer read I John 2:3-6.

a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does it mean to keep His commandments when the Bible says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God?
c. Personal Application : How are you in your personal relationships with others?
Is there room to progress in both your relationship with others and with God? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Keeping His commandments isn’t talking about legalistic obedience. It’s speaking of the Spiritual application of loving God and loving your fellow man.” How would you respond to your friend?

3. Have a volunteer read Matthew 7:21-23.

a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. Why will so many Christian preachers, healers, and workers be cast out and denied by Christ?
c. Personal Application : Is it better to have church as formal and traditional, or have sharing of experiences and excitement? Share.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “Why are so many church services dull, boring, and like funerals? Aren’t we supposed to be filled with the Spirit and lift up our voices in praise to God? What we need is a little more life in the church.” How would you respond to your neighbor?

4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 12:4-7.

a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is the difference in walking in the Spirit and walking in the flesh? How do Spiritual gifts enter into this discernment?
c. Personal Application : Do you know your Spiritual gifts? Can you use them if you’re not sure of what they are? If you are sure of them, are you using them? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
