Key Thought : Jeremiah knew the difficulties he would face and that he wouldn’t be able to handle it. But God calmed his fears and empowered him to speak God’s words.
The Calling of Jeremiah Sep 26 – Oct 2, 2015
1. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 1:4,5.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why was God’s call to Jeremiah such a difficult one for him to accept?
c. Personal Application : Have you ever felt that God was watching over the plans He has for you in your life? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “How does God choose people to do what He wants: Is there a criteria, or does he predestine people?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 7:5-7
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What is the basic message that God gives to His prophets in every age?
c. Personal Application : How willing are we to give a message that many will ignore, or get angry at us for giving? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “I don’t think this message to Israel has any application to us today. We don’t need to amend our ways – the world does, but not the church.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 1:6-10.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does God’s response to Jeremiah hold for hope and promise for us in what we believe and have been called to do?
c. Personal Application: How do we deal with feelings of inadequacy when we feel overwhelmed by the tasks ahead of us? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “Is it easier today to reprove, rebuke, and warn on social media than when the prophets had to give the messages face to face?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 1:17-19.

b. What was Jeremiah’s first vision about?
c. Personal Application: How do we develop the spiritual discipline of listening to God on a daily basis? Share your thoughts.
