8: Seasons of Parenting – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 20, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMay 27, 2019Joyce Griffith
Mother and child

Parenting issues by God’s people.  Especially in the Old Testament, the Bible shares stories both of parenting and of being childless as well as the agony of losing children through death or never having children due to circumstances. Still, in some sense, aren’t we all parents? Don’t we all sense a spirit of love and obligation … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 14, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMay 14, 2019Joyce Griffith
We Are In Jesus' Hands

How He longs for loving unity.  “That they all may be one, as you, Father are in me and I in You.”  Precious are those words in John 17 sent to us by Jesus. Can you sense in them the intense desire by Jesus for harmony and love shared by all members of human families? … Continue reading –>

6: The Royal Love Song – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 5, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMay 5, 2019Joyce Griffith

Solomon knew about love.  Didn’t he?  This week’s lesson looks back several thousand years  to the romantic life of King Solomon. Yes, there was romantic love back then. Lots of it. What  does that say about marriage today? Is there room–plenty of room–for unmarried men and women to search for the best possible marriage partner? … Continue reading –>

5: Wise Words for Families – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 28, 2019 by Joyce GriffithApril 28, 2019Joyce Griffith

Love the right woman. Of course. If it’s not the “right” woman, how can you love her? Or does it matter that much? Other women will be around. You can find one somewhere. Is that the message of Scripture about marriage? If you are a married man, imagine how you might feel if it dawned … Continue reading –>

4: When Alone – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 21, 2019 by Joyce GriffithApril 21, 2019Joyce Griffith

An Epidemic of Loneliness. “Nothing has been right since then,” our authors note, referring to the crash in Eden that tore the first building blocks to a happy home in pieces. Whether married or single, part of a friendly congregation or isolated in loneliness, all of us reflect to some degree or other the consequences … Continue reading –>

3: Preparing for Change – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 14, 2019 by Joyce GriffithApril 14, 2019Joyce Griffith

Change. Maybe you heard about the family living in an area with a very low population and no hospital within several hours. Are they moving? Wanting to move? No way. What about you and me? Do we face difficulties at one extreme and opportunities for wealth at the other but, either way, we don’t want … Continue reading –>

2: The Choices We Make – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 7, 2019 by Joyce GriffithApril 7, 2019Joyce Griffith

Free will, free choice. Which is true: A. Sin is so powerful that all human beings will be lost  B. God is so powerful that all human beings will be saved. C. Neither is true,  You probably chose “C. Neither is true/,” What are the actions that determine whether you will be lost or saved? … Continue reading –>

1: The Rhythms of Life – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 31, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMarch 31, 2019Joyce Griffith

In the beginning. Does your living room, kitchen, workplace, and other parts of your home reflect order, with the neat and  harmonious arrangement of the items that make living in your home rewarding? What evidence do we see in the study of creation that reveal the value of cleanliness and care in our home–and in … Continue reading –>

13: I Make All Things New – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 25, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMarch 25, 2019Joyce Griffith

I make all things new. Often a task assigned to young children at home is to “take the trash out.” Isn’t it true that most of us are looking forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ and seeing God and the angels working to get rid of the trash on earth? Do you ever wonder … Continue reading –>

12 Judgment on Babylon – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 18, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMarch 18, 2019Joyce Griffith

Judgment on Babylon. As we open this week’s discussion, consider the horrific picture that introduces the lesson: Horns, sharp animal horns and teeth, and a woman with a smirk on her face holding up a bowl of wine to drink.  What do your class members think of all of these symbols for the final unifying … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
