10: Living the Gospel – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 2, 2019 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 2, 2019Joyce Griffith

Earning our salvation? Do you ever encounter Christians who honestly believe that we earn our way to heaven? If that is not your belief, how  do you explain the importance of obeying God’s commands if we want to join Him in heaven? Our lesson guide places the text from Ephesians (2:8-10) at the top of … Continue reading –>

9: Ministry in the New Testament Church – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 25, 2019 by Joyce GriffithAugust 25, 2019Joyce Griffith

1,  A new kind of community.  Seven people selected from the  early Christian church were assigned the responsibility for organizing members to meet the  physical needs of the neediest members of the congregation. These would include housing, feeding, clothing, childcare, and many other responsibilities that some families would have difficulty meeting. Thousands of years later … Continue reading –>

8: The Least of These – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2019 by Joyce GriffithAugust 18, 2019Joyce Griffith

The least of these. Maybe we should translate  25:40 something like this: “However you are treating the poor, the sick, and those who are suffering from other bad circumstances, well, that’s how you are treating the King of the universe, the God you claim to worship.” You may welcome such a comment, noting that you … Continue reading –>

7: Jesus and Those in Need – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 11, 2019 by Joyce GriffithAugust 11, 2019Joyce Griffith

Jesus came to show us what God is like. For four thousand years, God had revealed Himself to His people through miracles, visions, prophets and many other ways. But as marvelous as God’s revelations were, even the leaders of God’s people too often seemed oblivious to the nature and character of God. They wanted to … Continue reading –>

3 Sabbath: A Day of Freedom – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 15, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJuly 15, 2019Joyce Griffith

The main purpose for God’s creation of Sabbath.  Is it hard for you to believe that the Sabbath came into being to celebrate the creation of a day of rest? Did mankind need a special time to mingle with one another in praise to God? Why? or why not?   Sabbath is a time to … Continue reading –>

2: Blueprint for a Better World – Discussion starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 8, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJuly 8, 2019Joyce Griffith

“You shall not take vengeance.” The opening words of this week’s lesson include a command to love our neighbors, even the ones who don’t agree with us. What would life be like if everybody who followed Jesus was eager to share God’s love with others? Was that the purpose God had in mind when He … Continue reading –>

13: Turning Hearts in the End Time – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 23, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJune 23, 2019Joyce Griffith

Turning hearts in the end time. As we close our three-month consideration of preparing for the end time, does this week’s lesson puts the heavy burden of spreading the good news of salvation directly on us last-day Seventh-day Adventists? The last book of the Bible before the arrival of the baby Jesus makes a mighty … Continue reading –>

12: What Have They Seen in Your House – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 16, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJune 16, 2019Joyce Griffith

What have they seen in your house?  What feelings does this question stir in your heart? If police suspect a crime has occurred in a house, what evidence do they search for? What about your house and your spiritual condition? Is there any physical evidence in your house of your love for God?  Look around. … Continue reading –>

11: Families of Faith – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 10, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJune 10, 2019Joyce Griffith

1. Hold Fast what is Good. The title of this week’s lesson could be, “Families in the whirl of cultural change.” It’s certainly true, as the lesson author points out, that any church member who ventures forth on a mission assignment confronts cultural differences and needs to learn how to minister to those with such differences. … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 29, 2019 by Joyce GriffithJune 6, 2019Joyce Griffith
Mourning, Grief, Woman Praying

Times of loss.  This week we turn the page on happy memories of family life to consider some of the losses we endure in our families. Today we must admit that not one of us has lived a life free from the scourges of sin. Thousands of years have gone by, but we still think … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
