01: Why Witness? – Singing with Inspiration
Welcome to the Third Quarter of Sabbath School lesson studies “Making Friends for God”.
The title for the quarter immediately brings to mind:
Hymn 499, What A Friend We Have in Jesus. So many other hymns then flooded in. On doing a little research as to how many of our hymns have the word “friend”, at least once, I found 61 hymns! So dear friends, we have a treasure chest from which to choose for our singing this quarter.
I would like to introduce to you a hymn that I have not heard sung in my church at all in my 60+ years of life. It is
Hymn 346, Lord, Who Dost Give to Thy Church. It contains many of the topics we will study this quarter. If you wish to learn this grand hymn, you may find the piano and organ music playing at https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/346-Lord,-Who-Dost-Give-to-Thy-Church (click on the play arrow).
We are to preach and live our lives always showing that Jesus Christ lives, and He will give Salvation (Sunday) –
Hymn 251, He Lives. As Romans 10:14, 15 says, we are to tell the story,
Hymn 152, Tell Me the Story of Jesus.
Monday states that “all heaven rejoices when the lost are found”:
Hymn 373, Seeking the Lost,
Hymn 365, O Zion, Haste, and
Hymn 361, Hark! ‘Tis the Shepherd’s Voice I Hear.
“Growing by Giving” will show you
Give of Your Best to the Master, Hymn 572. Tuesday goes on to quote Ellen G. White that “we must participate in His labours for their redemption” –
Hymn 357, Come, Labor On,
Hymn 367, Rescue the Perishing,
Hymn 369, Bringing in the Sheaves and
Hymn 375, Work For the Night is Coming.
There is a challenge thrown to each of us on Wednesday that is summed up in
Hymn 602, O Brother, Be Faithful.
There are many hymns about the love of God for us, and our love for our fellowman. Here are just a few from which to choose:
Hymn 189, All That Thrills My Soul,
Hymn 186, I’ve Found a Friend,
Hymn 183, I Will Sing of Jesus’ Love, and
Hymn 185, Jesus Is All the World to Me.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
