Key Text: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me’” (Isaiah 6:8, NKJV)
Read in Class: Genesis 15:6, Galatians 3:6-9, and Hebrews 11:8.
Study: What about Abraham’s life and character qualified him for God’s service, even though he was, clearly, a flawed man?
Apply: Scripture says that Abram “believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). How do you see the promise of the gospel powerfully revealed in this text? What hope can you take from this for yourself?
Share: Your friend mentions that in Matthew 7:15-16, Jesus says you can tell a real or false prophet by their fruits. Your friend asks if this means that a true prophet will be perfect and never sin or make mistakes. What do you tell your friend?
Read in Class: 1 Kings 18:19-39.
Study: What can we see from this story about how the prophetic office can work?
Apply: Read Malachi 4:5-6. How does the Elijah message impact the homes of those who follow God?
Share: Your friend says that in 1 Kings 19:14, Elijah claims to be the only faithful person left. In 1 Kings 19:18, God tells Elijah he has 7,000 faithful followers who didn’t run away as he did. Your friend asks why it matters that we don’t think we are the last ones preaching Bible truth and, more importantly, why we need to be careful of any pastor who claims he is the last one preaching Bible truth. What do you tell your friend?
Read in Class: Daniel 2:46-48; Daniel 4:18; Daniel 5:13-14; and Daniel 6:25-27.
Study: What do these verses tell us about the kind of witness Daniel was to the pagans around him?
Apply: All the kingdoms in Daniel 2 came and went as predicted. What should this tell us about trusting Bible prophecy, which says God’s eternal kingdom comes next (Dan. 2:44)?
Share: Your friend points out that Daniel was promoted in a very pagan society, so we can’t blame office politics or workplace corruption when we get passed over for a promotion. Promotion comes from the Lord Psalm 75:6-7, KJV. What do you tell your friend?
Read in Class: Mark 1:2-5 and Matthew 11:1-6.
Study: What was the purpose of John the Baptist’s ministry? How did Jesus reaffirm John’s faith while the preacher was in prison?
Apply: Have you ever been in a position, as John was in jail, where you just could not understand why such bad things were happening to you? How did you still maintain your faith and trust in God?
Share: Your friend says that God sent a prophet to prepare the world for Christ’s first advent; will he also send a prophet to prepare the world right before Christ’s second advent? What do you tell your friend?
Mission: God may not be calling you to be a prophet, but He is definitely calling you to serve somewhere. This week, can yoy pray the same prayer Isaiah prayed, “Lord, send me?”
