2: The Message of the Cross — Singing with Inspiration

Oh, the beauty of studying this quarter’s lessons. We will learn so much of the Love of God (and our Saviour, Jesus) which stands out in so many pages of this quarter. Trying to choose just one hymn for the Theme Hymn was almost impossible, but these ones stood out all through the lesson pamphlet from which you may choose:
Hymn 79 – O Love Of God,
Hymn 349 – God Is Love and then in seeing God’s amazing love we can
Hymn 600 – Hold Fast and
Hymn 602 – O Brother, Be Faithful.

“The Gospel Of The Cross” gives us a lot of most beautiful hymns about our Gracious God, and our dear Lord Jesus and what They have done, and are still doing for us today:

Hymn 154/155 – When I Survey The Wondrous Cross,

Hymn 156 – O Sacred Head, Now Wounded,

Hymn 157 – Go To Dark Gethsemane,

Hymn 158 – Were You There?,

Hymn 159 – The Old Rugged Cross,

Hymn 160 – Ride On In Majesty,

Hymn 161 – Throned Upon The Awful Tree,

Hymn 162 – Wondrous Love,

Hymn 163 – At The Cross, and

Hymn 164 – There is A Green Hill Far Away.

With all this knowledge, as did Paul, we are to go forward and
Rescue The Perishing – Hymn 367 as we obey The Father and
Go, Preach My Gospel – Hymn 378 (Monday). With God’s help we will be showing there is
Power In The Blood – Hymn 294, all because
Jesus Saves – Hymn 340 (Tuesday).

Wednesday reminds us that there is “the plan of redemption” for everyone who accepts:
Hymn 337/338 – Redeemed.

During the days of the Roman Empire when people were hung on a cross for all to see, was a picture of total humiliation, and degredation of a person’s total being.
On the cross you would be completely naked, you had no clothing to cover your body, nothing but the skin you were born in. It was a means of disgracing an individual completely.
So to look upon a person on a cross would cause others watching to be a very disappointing sight, and so there would be no glory in the exposing a person’s nakedness to te public.
But, when looking at the crucified CHRIST upon the cross did not deter the beliver to look away as a shameful ordeal.
The believer would ultimately see the glory and selfishless act of submission of Christ demonstrating strength and power, and not disgust or unbelief. A redeeming source of strength that carries us from here to eternity.
