Thursday: Organizing for Mission

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 19, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonDecember 16, 2018avatar
Christ the Creator

As we have seen throughout this quarter (and which bears repeating), as a church we have been organized and unified for mission, for outreach. We are not just a social club for like-minded people to get together and affirm each other in what we believe (though that can be important, as well). We have been … Continue reading –>

12 Church Organization and Unity – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 18, 2018 by Corinne KnopperDecember 18, 2018avatar

Hymn 348, “The Church Has One Foundation” sums up the Sabbath afternoon introduction to this week’s lesson study. We ask that:  “Jesus, With Thy Church Abide” – Hymn 374 (Sunday), along with  Hymn 235, “Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation”.  Hymn 462, “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine!” has in verses 3 and 4 gives us the submission to … Continue reading –>

12: Church Organization and Discipline – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 18, 2018 by Joyce GriffithDecember 18, 2018Joyce Griffith

Protestant Christians. Do you remember the first time someone told you that the  Seventh-day Adventist church is Protestant? And when you learned there was a link between “protesting” and your church, did you gasp just a bit to realize you belonged to a church known along with others such as Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, and Baptists for … Continue reading –>

December 22, 2018 1. Have a volunteer read 2 Timothy 2:14; Titus 1:9. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Church Discipline

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 18, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonDecember 15, 2018avatar
Sharing the Word

One of the main issues of church organization is to deal with discipline. How discipline helps to preserve church unity is sometimes a touchy subject and easily may be misunderstood. But from a biblical perspective, church discipline centers on two important areas: preserving purity of doctrine and preserving purity of church life and practice. As … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Preserving Church Unity

Worship Him

Read 2 Timothy 2:15 and Titus 1:9. According to Paul’s counsels to Timothy and Titus, what crucial tasks are the responsibility of a faithful church leader and elder? Notice how much emphasis Paul puts on keeping the doctrines and teachings pure. This is crucial for unity, especially because one could argue that, more than anything else, our teachings … Continue reading –>

Monday: Servant Leadership

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 16, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonDecember 13, 2018avatar
Servant Leadership

During His ministry with His disciples, Jesus repeatedly experienced moments when He probably felt exasperated by the envy for power they seemed to have. The apostles appeared to be anxious to become powerful leaders of Jesus’ kingdom (Mark 9:33-34; Luke 9:46). Even as the disciples were eating the Last Supper together, these feelings of domination and supremacy … Continue reading –>

Authority and Individual Conscience

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 16, 2018 by William EarnhardtDecember 23, 2018avatar

While studying church organization and unity, this week, It is worthwhile for all of us to think about the role of government and our individual responsibility – not just secular government but church government as well. Former United States President Richard Nixon defended himself in the Watergate scandal, by telling one of the world’s most celebrated … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Christ, the Head of the Church

Sabbath School Net Posted on December 15, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonDecember 13, 2018avatar
The Remnant. Christ commissionning the last-day saints to spread the gospel.

As we have seen already in an earlier lesson, in the New Testament the church is represented by the metaphor of body. The church is the body of Christ. This metaphor alludes to several aspects of the church and the relation between Christ and His people. As the body of Christ, the church depends on … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
