Temple Curtain Tears

Daily Lesson for Thursday 5th of March 2026 Read Colossians 2:20-23. How do you understand Paul’s admonitions in light of the other elements discussed in this chapter? As in his epistle to the Galatians, Paul characterizes the concern over keeping Jewish ceremonies as “the basic principles of the world” (Colossians 2:8,20, NKJV; compare Galatians 4:3,9). … Continue reading –>

The Seventh Day

Daily Lesson for Wednesday 4th of March 2026 Read Colossians 2:16-19. What Jewish-Christian practices are highlighted here by Paul? To this day, scholars do not agree on exactly what the issues were that Paul was addressing here. Introduction: Try to put yourself in the place of the people Paul is addressing in his letter to the Colossians. Today, Christianity is the world’s largest religion. Imagine that it did not exist in your world. The pagan religions are all around. The most important people believe in them. A brand new religion, based on … Continue reading –>

Ceremonial law

Daily Lesson for Tuesday 3rd of March 2026 Read Colossians 2:11-15. What issues does Paul seem to be combating here? How often have we seen these texts, especially Colossians 2:14, misused as an argument against the law and keeping the Sabbath? To help understand these texts, two main interpretations have been proposed by Seventh-day Adventists: … Continue reading –>

The Robe of Righteousness

One hot July afternoon at an Oklahoma Camp meeting, I visited a friend in her tent. Just outside sat my friend’s 13-year-old daughter with a friend she had just met. This was her friend’s first camp meeting. He had come with his grandfather, who just become a Christian. He did not know what to think … Continue reading –>

Man Studying Bible

Daily Lesson for Monday 2nd of March 2026 The theme of Colossians is one of the clearest maxims for living the Christian life: “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” (Colossians 2:6, NKJV). We receive salvation by receiving a Person, not just a body of teachings. But receiving Jesus … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
