- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why was Israel chosen by God?
- Personal Application: Do you consider the SDA Church “special” in that God has chosen it to give the Elijah message? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “In what way was Israel to be above all the people? Wouldn’t this give them an inordinate sense of pride instead of humility?” How would you respond to your friend?
2. Have a volunteer read Jeremiah 11:8.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What is the parallel here concerning the people of Jeremiah’s time and those before the flood?
- Personal Application: How important is it to control our own thoughts? What are the dangers of dwelling on evil thoughts? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: “Today’s world is much worse than in the olden days. We have television, internet, social media, and cell phones to explicitly influence our minds and lead our thoughts into fantasies that many are willing to engage in reality.” How would you respond to your friend?
