7: A Heavenly Citizenship — (Philippians 3:17-4:23) — 2 Comments

  1. I believe that most temptations are described in the tenth commandment which warns us not to covet or desire what we do not have, such as our neighbor’s house, or wife, or cattle, land, etc., which is just the opposite of being content with what we have.

I also think that we need to be extremely careful not to suggest what Jesus was NOT tempted with. For example, a drug addict could say that Jesus was never tempted to try a drug.

Ironically, one day the pastor of our church came up to a church brother and myself as we were conversing next to the church doorway. He started talking about Jesus. He said that Jesus was never tempted to sleep with a woman. I repeated Phillipians 4:15. My first thought was if one of us or all of us had ever lusted at a woman, I think that we would have reason to believe that there was no hope for us. Thankfully we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us because he was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. He is able to deliver us from evil and promises a way of escape when facing temptation.

The prince of this world offered Jesus the whole world if He would worship him. Jesus said “ Get behind me, Satan”. The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan happened on earth that day!

  2. Correction! I should have written that the Great Controversy between Christ and Satan was once again revealed when Satan was trying to tempt Christ by offering Him the world if He would worship him.
