Friday: Further Thought – Escape From the World’s Ways

Spectacles on Bible

Further Thought: A steward operates from the twin principles of duty and love. “Remember that duty has a twin sister, Love; these united can accomplish almost everything, but separated, neither is capable of good.” – Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 62. Duty is love in action. We need only to dwell on … Continue reading –>

Key Thought: To escape worldliness we need to cultivate the spiritual life in Bible study, prayer, Christian service, fellowship, and contemplating the wonders of nature. January 27, 2018, Lesson 4 1. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 11:1-6. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is. … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Holy Spirit

Woman Praying and Dove Hovering

The great controversy is real; two sides are battling for our souls. One is drawing us to Christ (John 6:44) and one to the world (1 John 2:16). The power of the Holy Spirit in our lives can and will draw us in the right direction if we will but submit to Him. “However, when He, the Spirit of … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Life of Wisdom

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 23, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 25, 2018avatar
Solomon asks for wisdom

One of the most beautiful stories in the Bible is found in the story of Solomon’s request to God, to give him above all things “an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (1 Kings 3:9, NKJV). What important … Continue reading –>

4: Escape from the World’s Ways – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 23, 2018 by Joyce GriffithJanuary 25, 2018Joyce Griffith

Memory verse: “Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. . . . He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage” (Proverbs 11:4, 28, NKJV). Does a strong relationship with Christ protect us from evil and prepare us for eternal life with Him? What do you … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: The Life of Prayer

Daniel's Life of Prayer

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3, NKJV). It is no wonder that Christians often say that their faith is about a relationship with God. If knowing God is “eternal life,” then we can find that life through a relationship with … Continue reading –>

How to Use the Tithe and Offering Envelope

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 22, 2018 by William EarnhardtJanuary 12, 2019avatar
Things We Do in Our Church Life

Understandably, there are many who are unaware of the difference between tithes and offerings. Many, even seasoned members are surprised to learn there is a difference.  Tithe is not used for general use, like church maintenance, Sabbath School supplies and so on.  The offerings cover those needs, while the tithe goes to pay the salaries of … Continue reading –>

Singing with Inspiration – Lesson 4: Escape From the World’s Ways

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 21, 2018 by Corinne KnopperFebruary 8, 2018avatar

Our memory text brings to us the third verse of: Hymn 547, Be Thou My Vision singing “Riches, I heed not..” We are then encouraged to fight in the armor and power of God which is shown in: Hymn 448, “O, When Shall I See Jesus” in verse 2. This also appears in: Hymn 572, “Give of … Continue reading –>

Open Bible

More than six billion Bibles have been distributed worldwide, but how many are viewed as the Word of the living God? How many are read with a sincere heart open to know truth? Proper Bible study directs our spiritual compass and enables us to navigate a world of falsehood and confusion. The Bible is a … Continue reading –>

Sunday: A Relationship With Christ

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 20, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 26, 2018avatar
Relationship with Christ

Love of worldly possessions, even by those who don’t have much, can be a powerful chain that binds the soul to the world instead of to Christ. Even if we don’t have much in terms of earthly possessions, the passionate desire to attain material goods can become a terrible curse that will, if not brought … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
