Does Intercessory Prayer Matter? — 18 Comments

  1. Yes, it does.. It has done a lot in my life.. When my daughter was sick like a vegetable when she was just 7 months old, when the doctors who checked has got no clue why..

God sent miracle, a help arrived from source unknown diagnosing her & helped her come back to normal.. She's now a happy 5 year child.. I see her as an answered intercessory prayers of the family, the church & many more..

One of my uncles had cardiac arrest on his way to work, but God led him miraculously after a critical bypass surgery cuz of intercessory prayers.. he's now ministering unto God..

    There are many more..

But I see these two people in my life everyday & always thank God for them & also for giving a beautiful gift of intercession..

I believe Jesus doing the same for us will definitely find a place for us in the eternal home..

    • Praise God Daphney for your answers to prayer! I am sure your little girl is a loving reminder of God's goodnes that will lead all those around her to repentance and salvation! And thank God for your uncle who is sharing the love of God. God had a plan for his life that Satan could not stop. Thank you for sharing the good news and thank God for intercessory prayer!

  2. I agree with what you're saying, William. Obviously prayer makes a difference. But surely the believers were praying for James too but he was not rescued. Perhaps they prayed harder for Peter? But the implications of that aren't nice. And what of the poor souls who have no one who prays for them? When I think it all through, I have more questions than answers. I do pray for others but if someone's salvation depends on me, I'm not sure I like that picture.

    • Hi Christina, prayer whether for ourselves or others is always subject to God’s will. Remember, Christ prayed for himself in Gethsemane , but still had to drink the bitter cup. Many people have lost their lives for the sake of the gospel, but their faithfulness was a testimony that led even more people to believe. Perhaps James won more people to the kingdom by showing his faithfulness unto death, while it was more profitable for Peter to preach the gospel a little while longer before he finally died for his faith. As far as people not having people who pray for them, that is why we need to be interceding for the whole world and praying for missionaries around the world regardless if we know their names or not. Remember also that Jesus intercedes on behalf of all humanity. Just like in the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus asks his followers to pray with him.

    • God is in charge and there are many things we won’t understand until we get to heaven.
Years ago we lost the head of a small academy to horrible accident (driving the students home from a choir trip) I had to quit asking God why because I couldn’t understand Ray’s death and won’t until Heaven.
But though I grew up in an active Protestant home and my husband’s father was a Pastor in another Protestant religion, we met at “The University”
(a well known state flagship university I call “Heathen U”) and were not then practicing any Christianity. I’m sure our parents prayed for us. But after we had been married 6 years my grandmother moved in with us for the last 6 months of her life. I’m fairly certain those months were devoted to praying for us.
A few years later we were looking for a church and 5 1/2 years after her death my husband was baptized. I was more stubborn, even though at ten I had asked why we went to church on Sunday when the 4th Commandment says the 7th day. I joined a couple of years after he did - 37 years ago.
Never underestimate the power of prayer.

  3. Great piece William! Intercessory prayer is more powerful than most people realize.

After graduating from Arise Institute we prayed for God’s wisdom and direction in Biblework ministry. The Michigan Conference Church Ministries Director interviewed us and they wanted to place us in Michigan, but needed some time to do so.

In the meantime, I needed to return to my work as an Ironworker to get back my health insurance, so that my wife could have a needed surgery. I contacted a Seventh-day Adventist friend who had a Steel Construction business in the Chicago area. He wanted to know what we were doing since we had seen them in Battle Creek, Michigan, at the lifestyle center we had been ministering at. I told him about our experience and need, and how we were praying for God’s direction. He immediately offered me a job and said that I had to check out this small church plant he was helping to get established, saying, "we could probably use you as a Bibleworker too."

The huge miracle beyond this is that the church plant was in Illinois near to my extended family. God opened the door for us to give Bible studies to my Mom, Stepfather, Sister and a couple nieces. I had prayed for many years for such an opportunity and here God opened the door. I was blessed to lead them to the Lord and baptize my mother. My Stepfather also wanted to be baptized but suddenly died before he could be.

I have so many other stories of how the Lord has blessed our lives and the lives of others through intercessory prayer. He even literally saved my life from certain death in more than one occasion on the jobsite, setting steel.

Whenever I question the presence of God in my life, this thought enters my mind, "remember what I have done for, in, and through you in the past. There's more to come. I'm still here, and I still hear your prayers!"

Since God is no respector of persons, what He's done for others, He'll do for you. "It is no secret, what God can do!..." God is so good, all the time.

  4. I am a testifier of intercessory prayers. Waited on the LORD for 6 years before blessing me with blessed children. Through the difficult period of waiting, so many things happened, so many issues came up yet family members, friends both Adventist and non-Adventist, church members were interceding on our behalf. When all human efforts were abortive and all hope seems lost, then God came through and proved Himself to be the Giver of all good things. Now I'm a proud Mother of two lovely children a boy (5) and a girl (2).
I as well I'm interceding for Women who look up to God for the blessings of the womb, to do it for all as He did for me. Praise God.

    • Praise God Sarah! Thank God for your wonderful blessings who will also grow to be blessings to others. At least you didn’t have to wait as long as the other Sarah in the Bible. 😉

  5. Yes, it does. In September last year, I was involved in a road traffic accident in a foreign country. The vehicle I was driving was damaged beyond repair. The paperwork process was extremely complicated, and I faced challenges getting clearance to leave the country because my documents were confiscated. At that moment, I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't even pray. However, somehow, God intervened, and I believe it was the prayers of people back home that made the difference.

  6. The short answer is yes my friend in Christ. In Christ we have several reasons to pray. Thank-you Willim for your article that is helpful for me. No mistake your a modern day messanger that touches all hearts. I do believe you were prophecied about of the topic of last days events.

  7. One more thought. I do remember, though I have not researched it recently, yes Satan was allowed in the heavenly council as representative of earth as depicted in Job 1 and 2. Yet, when Christ won the battle by dying on the Cross for our sins, Satan was no longer allowed in the heavenly council. Christ became our intercessor. Christ was involved in this earth before, yet as the God and Lord of the Old Testament. Now after the Cross He has a different roll as our High Priest. As our High Priest He entered the Most Holy part of the sanctuary in 1844, there He has been interceding before our Father in our behalf, if we invite Him to. Yes intercessory prayer works.

There will be a time soon when He will say, "It is finished," again. He will put on His kingly robes and descend with His Heavenly Angels and sitting on His throne and call us to meet Him in the air to take us to His Heavenly home, the Holy City. Satan will be crawling in the far corner of the earth, powerless. An Angel of God will come down and chain Him to this earth. Then after a thousand years all who ascended with Christ will descend with Christ in the Holy City. The earth will be made new as I described on last Friday's blog. And we will live on Earth made new forever with our King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The Revelation John saw indicates this. For the interested reader or fact checker, pick up the book The Great Controversy, by Ellen White. If found nowhere else, it is on Kindle. Another source is the free app EGW 2 writings. For what I have touched on read chapter 23, "What Is the Sanctuary?" to the end, which is chapter 42, The Controversy Ended.

  8. Just one more thought. It is my and many's prayer.

Bless me oh my Saviour bless me, as I sit low at thy feet. Oh look down in love upon me, as I see thy face so sweet. Give me Lord the mind of Jesus, make me Holy as He is. May I prove I've been with Jesus, who is all my righteousness. Amen!

  9. I have been praying for my son who has breathing problems, but I have been praying alone. If you wouldn’t be bothered interceding in prayer for him, kindly pray for his healing with me. His name is Nkunim meaning Victory. Thank you and God bless you

    • Dear Sandra, I will share your concern and request with other members of this forum and petition them to intercede on your, and your son's behalf. God hears the prayers of a mother's heart.

Dear Father in heaven. We lift up to you Sandra, as Nkunim's mother, give her wisdom and peace in this situation. Give her wisdom to help discover what might be contributing to or causing his breathing issues, and give her peace in the midst of it while she waits for and anticipates the victory for her son, Nkunim.

Gracious Father, we pray that you would deliver this child from this difficult breathing condition. Father, we ask that you would bind up any evil angels that may be harassing this family, and this boy. We thank you that you always hear our prayers and thank you for the victory in this situation. Father, just say the Rapha Word of healing and it shall be done. We pray these things be done by your compassion and mercies, and for your glory, honor, and praise. Please have mercy on this family. We ask these things in the precious name of
your Son, our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen! We claim and rejoice in the victory you have given to Nkunim. Amen!

      • Absoluty, my wife (and I believe in intercessory prayer, it is closly realted to unceasing prayer) we are now putting Sandra Ayikwei on our daily prayer list. It would be good Sandra to hear through ssnet blogs that our prayers are answered.
