Don’t Be Afraid to Try! — 11 Comments

  1. “I am not afraid of failing. I am afraid of not trying.” If that is true in sports, it is infinitely more true in evangelism! Don’t let the past haunt you. Go ahead and try!
    .... Amen

  2. Yes I agree. sometimes that is all we need to do is try and trust in the power of God to see us through.
    Thanks for sharing that.

  3. Thanks William for sharing this. Your message is so profound it reminded me of what happened to my friend just a few months ago. He lived by himself and has been found dead in his flat while we were in Covit-19 lockdown. Your testimonial has brought me to think of sharing the good news to those around me that I never did to my good old friend. Happy Sabbath

  4. Yes, William - the 'what ifs' can hound someone for the rest of ones life unless we make a choice! What choice? We can lay all our life's 'missed opportunities' and 'what-ifs' on the altar of God's eternity; we let God the Father sort it all out - Faith!

I think that everyone is a mission field and everyone's life is lived in a mission field. God 'uses' us wherever He finds us if we trust Him.
Why do you think it is that so many Christian's are 'afraid to try', step out on their own to witness? I think it is because their relationship with their Father is not yet solid enough in their own walk of life, they are still doubting or not yet fully understanding the realness of their relationship with God and need to be ministered to themselves.

The focus on 'Education', learning everything related to the newly aquired spiritual life, needs to be first and formost for ALL who believe; everyone must come to the understanding of the spiritual context of their new life!
By 'all' I mean, everyone who confesses to believe in the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Savior; this also includes those who were brought up in the Church by parents who have been members of the congregation for generations. Everyone needs to understand the fundamental, spiritual Truth of their new Life in Christ - because it is FIRST Spiritual THAN PRACTICAL. It must go beyond learning the 'language' of the Bible; the spiritual meaning of the words has to be understood by the heart and mind!

The Spiritual education of the believer is paramount to understanding that we have a spiritual relationship with our Father through the applied Faith of Jesus, the Father's Gospel given to us by Jesus the Christ.
*Living by Faith* is based on the practical application of a lived and experienced spiritual RELATIONSHIP with the Father who IS SPIRIT. We have to come to the understanding that we come close to Him in Spirit when we relate to Him - His Spirit is Love for us; in return, we are empowered to love Him and our fellow man. This, His Love, will manifest itself in all the different shades and colors of life through the believer's application of the Faith of Jesus - the Father's Gospel!

If we do this, if we firmly establish the love-faith-relationship with our Father through applying our trust, we will not hesitate to run to home-plate or wherever the Spirit leads us. We will not need an outside coach to tell us to knock on doors or work in the soup kitchens or open our homes for a bible study; we do not need to wait to have the church direct our faith to participate in organized programs - we will be a missionary when we wake up until we lay down to sleep!

Matt.22:36-40 - It begins with loving the Father will ALL our heart.
Matt.22:41:46 - It continues with learning to understand the Faith we profess to have in the Word of God. Jesus asked a question of the Pharisees, the learned,'educated' man of His time and even they were confounded.
    (42) - "Saying what think ye of CHRIST? whose son is he? They say unto him, the son of David."
    (43) - "He saith unto them, How then doeth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
    (44) - The LORD said unto my Lord, sit though on my right hand till I make thine enemies they footstool?"
    (45) - "If David then calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
    (46) - "And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more 'questions'."(try to catch Him in doubt - not able to run to the next base).

We will be ministered to as we minister to others - there can be no separation between our Faith and our Walk by Faith; at least their should not be!
And if there is, why is that - because we are spiritually unsure - this is leading to doubt, unconfidence, unassertiveness, insecurity, hessitation! We do not hear within ourselves the signal - *run*!

    • What a blessing Jesus said I and My Father are one and We will come and dwell with you.

John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
John 14:10. Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
John 14:20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and will make our home with him.
Heb 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

      • Shirley - thank you for providing these wonderful passages to show that our faith in the Word of God as represented in Jesus' Gospel is founded in the God we call our Father.

Heb.1:3 - Yes, this is what our new, spiritual nature in Christ reflects (or ought to), though understood only dimly now - 'the radiance of God's glory and His nature'.
Our faithfully maintained spiritual relationship with God the Father and His Son who came to us in the form of Jesus will form this new nature by the power of the Holy Spirit by Grace.

        Rom.6:4-23
(16)"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"
(17)"But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the HEART that form of doctrine which was delievered you." (by Faith we are saved)
(18)"Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
(19)"I speak after the manner of man because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness."

Heb.1:3 - God is Spirit; He sent His Son who is Spirit to indwell the body of the man Jesus. His Son, now in the form of the man Jesus, they became our Savior Jesus the Christ by Obedience/Love to the Father's will.
Rom.5:21 - The resurrected Son, now in the form of Jesus the Christ, left us God's Holy Spirit to continue the education of believers; those who requested, received and accepted the Gift of the Holy Spirit of God by Faith.

Our faith-relationship is based on the Father and Son's spiritual, creative Love and redeeming Grace toward us. It is experienced by 'grounding' (also an electrician's term for 'neutralizing') our life in Jesus' Gospel message - righteous living by Grace through faith!

        • Thank you Brigitte, I am encouraged by your comments, however I am in a different place in my understanding of the nature of man and the nature of Jesus. I would be interested to learn how you came to the conclusion that "God sent His Son who is Spirit to indwell the body of the man Jesus" please provide the texts.

          • Shirley, my answer to your question ‘how I came to the conclusion that “God sent His Son who is Spirit to indwell the body of the man Jesus” ’ is a bit lengthy, but worth your contemplation. I am looking forward and am excited to gain more insight which, I hope, studying this new quarterly’s lessons will bring about.

Jesus clearly states: John 10:30 - “I and my Father are one”. They are not one in body, they are one in Spirit.
            Isaiah 11:1-5
            (1) – “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”
            (2) “And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

Psalm 110:1 and Matt.22:36-46 provide interesting insight related to the stem of Jesse.
Psalm 110:1-7 – “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit though at my right hand, until I make thine enemies they footstool.” This Psalm is attributed to David. The capitalization of LORD is provided to show that there are two lords – the Father (LORD) and the Son (Lord). (2)The ‘rod of thy strength’ is David’s Lord – the Father’s Son.
            (4) – “The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent. Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” This statement regards the Son of God, David’s Lord. David is the son of Jesse; from His line was Jesus ‘born’.

Matt. 22:42-45 – Here we find Jesus speaking with the Pharisees asking them the question: (42) “What think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. (43,44) “He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?" (45)"If David then call him Lord, how is he(Christ) his son?" (He inquired about who CHRIST is.)
Matt.16:6-17 – (13)“…Whom do men say that I THE SON OF MAN am? (15)”But whom say ye that I am?” (16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the CHRIST, the SON OF THE LIVING GOD.” (17)”And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." How has the Father revealed it to Peter - through His Spirit; the Father, His Son and the Spirit are one.

Daniel 12:1 – “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: …. “. Those living in Heaven do not have the body of man; they are Spirit-formed, we are earth-formed.
John 1:14 – “And the Word was MADE flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

John16:28 - When the Son of God, sent by the Father, came to offer restoration, spiritual *oneness with heaven* to mankind, He took the form of Jesus; clothed with a body of flesh, but retaining His heavenly, spiritual likeness of the Father - this is what Jesus(the from heaven sent Son, not the flesh) means when He says 'they' are one; this is how He is in the Father and the Father is in Him; this is how He is in the Father, we are in Him and He is in us; this is how the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature.
These statements are taken from the Scripture references you provided in your first reply to my comments. (9.25.20)

John14:23 – “… If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and will make our home with him.”
Matt.22:37-40 The Holy Spirit is the Word of God, indwelling and understood by all who love God our Father with all their heart and being; and He will empower them to love like they have been loved.

  5. Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better that these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this
    Eccles 7:10

Many times people do not do somethings because they fail to try. They are afraid of trying because if they fail at that thing people will see them as looser.
But it all depends on what we are trying to accomplished. The reading says we should not be afraid of sharing Jesus. Can we share Jesus without telling the other person we are sharing Jesus or mentioning his name? Can we be an ambassador without telling others which country we are representing?

Knocking at doors does not always means taking a track/book. We can take soon home made cooking, cakes, fruits and vegetables from our kitchen garden.
