“Get Up and Walk!” Faith and Healing – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Jesus’ power and authority were used to serve humanity. Who ever came to Him was embraced by His love and included in His grace.
“Get Up and Walk!” Faith and Healing April 16-22, 2016
1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 8:1-4.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What was so important about the fact that Jesus touched the leper in healing him?
c. Personal Application : Do you believe that people can still be healed today, even though Jesus is not physically present with us? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Why did Jesus tell the leper not to tell anyone about his being healed except for the priest for confirmation of his condition?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 8:31-34.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. Why did the demons ask to be cast into the swine? Did they have a motive for that request? If so, why did Jesus grant their request?
c. Personal Application : Has there been any time in your life when you really wanted Jesus to go away? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “There is no such thing as demon possession. People can be mentally challenged, depressed, angry, hateful, temporarily insane; but that is not demon possession. It could be chemical imbalances, stress, or other causes. People create their own evil.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Matthew 9:2-7.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Why did Jesus tell that man his sins were forgiven, rather than just heal him right away?
c. Personal Application: Have you ever seen God work a miracle in someone’s life and healed them? How do we know that the healing was from God and not another source? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “Doesn’t the Bible say we are to forgive one another? What’s wrong with forgiving a person’s sins?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Matthew 8:18-22.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does it mean when Jesus said, “Let the dead bury the dead”? Is He telling us that following Him is far more important than attending a funeral service?
c. Personal Application: God not might always decide to heal a person physically, but does He always want to heal spiritually? What should that tell us about our prayer life? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
