An Incorruptible Inheritance – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Peter sends letters to those scattered throughout the world that they are not forsaken nor forgotten, but called to live holy lives in the community of faith.
1. Have a volunteer read I Peter 1:3-7.

a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why does Peter say that the trials of our lives are more precious than gold?
c. Personal Application : In what ways might we be considered aliens or strangers in the world? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “What does it mean that our inheritance is reserved in heaven for us? I thought God gave us eternal life and we have it now?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read I Peter 1:13-18.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean to be holy? How can we become holy as God is holy?
c. Personal Application : How do we demonstrate our calling and status by our lifestyles? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why are you a Christian? What motivates you to be a Christian? And why, among all churches, did you choose to be a Seventh–day Adventist? How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read I Peter 1:22-25.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How is purifying ourselves by obeying the truth different from a works oriented salvation?
c. Personal Application: How does it feel to be a stranger rather than a member of a community or family? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “What does it mean that God’s Word endures forever? Is this applied to Jesus as the Word, the written Word of the Bible, or Jesus’ words found in the Bible? How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read I Peter 1:12.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What aspects of the gospel is Peter referring to that angels desire to look into in his time?
c. Personal Application : Are there any aspects of the gospel that you do not understand completely and desire to know more about? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
