Jesus the Master of Missions – Teaching Plan
Key Thought : God still calls on men and women to be available as His representatives in promoting life and the values of the kingdom of heaven.
1. Have a volunteer read Mathew 15:24.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why did Jesus focus on the children of Israel? Was it because of the seventy-week time prophecy, or were there other reasons as well?
c. Personal Application: Are there certain people that you tend to focus on reaching more than others? Why is that? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Most churches aren’t interested in missions. They are more interested in themselves and what the church can do for them. Most church members I know are focused inward as if the church and its social activities was all there was.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Luke 14:18-24.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What some of the obstacles that we face in doing missionary work today? How can we overcome these obstacles?
c. Personal Application : What excuses do we make in not doing the work God has called us to do? How do we get too busy to do God’s work?” Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “What’s wrong with tending cattle, taking care of your crops, and getting married and taking care of your family? Why does Jesus use these things as a hindrance to attending the wedding feast?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Matthew 28:16-20
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How comforting is it to know that God has all power and will be with us always?
c. Personal Application: How well are we doing in teaching everyone all things that Jesus has commanded us? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “This text seems to say we are to teach, baptize, and continue to teach. Most of the time, we teach and baptize and that’s it. How do we continue to teach our members?” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read John 20:21
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What was Jesus’ mission here on the earth? Is our mission the same, or is it different? Share.
c. Personal Application: How do we make our churches community focused where every member is engaged in some form of ministry? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
