[Lesson Plan for The Kingdom of God June 8, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Luke 18:16-22.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God as a little child?
c. Personal Application: Do we tend to look at what we’ve done for the church or for others as a kind of merit badge to show that we really are Christians? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Why did Jesus tell this man to keep the commandments to enter life? I thought salvation was by grace. What’s His point?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Luke 17:21-24.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does Jesus mean that the kingdom of God is within you?
c. Personal Application: Why does God warn us not to follow people who want to show us the way or place of the kingdom? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “What is wrong with time-setting for the second coming? Aren’t all the signs here for us to be ready and get others ready for Christ’s return?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Luke 21:34-36.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does it mean to “watch and pray always”? How does this apply in our lives?
c. Personal Application: How caught up are we in the “cares of this life”? How can we deal with these cares without losing our focus on Christ, and developing His kingdom now and for the future? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “What does Jesus mean that the second coming will be a snare to those who dwell on the earth?” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Luke Acts 1:1-8.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Are there many in the church that are not witnessing because the Spirit has not been poured out on them?
c. Personal Application: What are some of the forms of witnessing that Lord has impressed on you? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
