The Habits of a Steward – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Negative or positive habits are formed through repetition. We need to protect positive habits of stewardship.
1. Have a volunteer read Luke 12:46-48.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What does this tell us about being prepared and preparing others for Christ’s second coming?
c. Personal Application : How can you tell if you have made God first in your life? What evidences would be present? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Seems to me that it’s better not to know too much or have any talents, then there is less responsibility and accountability to worry about.” Do you tend to agree or disagree with your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Ephesians 5:15,16.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean to walk circumspectly?
c. Personal Application: How do you use your time on a daily basis? How much of it is given to the Lord? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “I’m so busy from the time I get up until the end of the day. I really don’t have time for prayer, church activities, or Bible study. At the end of the day, all I want to do is chill and watch an hour or two of TV and go to bed.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read 3 John 2,3.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What relationship does the mind and body have to do with spiritual health?
c. Personal Application: Are there some habits in your physical and mental well being and health that could be changed or improved? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why do so many people suffer from fears, depression, and anxiety? Is it because we live in an increasingly uncertain world?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 9:24-27.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does Paul say here about self-discipline? How do we worship our bodies and minds under self-discipline?
c. Personal Application: In what ways can we help those who are trapped in bad and self-destructive habits? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
