Tuesday: Progress?
At the turn of the twentieth century, people lived with the idea that humanity was improving, that morality would increase, and that science and technology would help usher in a utopia. Human beings, it was believed, were essentially on the path toward perfection. Through the right kind of education and moral training, it was thought that humans could greatly improve themselves and their society.
All this was supposed to start happening, en masse, as we entered into the brave new world of the twentieth century.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite turn out that way, did they? The twentieth century was one of the most violent and barbaric in all history, thanks-ironically enough-in great part to the advances of science, which made it much more possible for people to kill others on a scale that the most depraved madmen of the past could only dream about.
What was the problem?
Read Romans 1:22-32. In what ways do we see the things that were written there in the first century being manifested today in the twenty-first century?
We might need faith to believe in a lot of things about Christianity: among them, the resurrection of the dead, the Second Coming, and a new heaven and a new earth. But who needs faith to believe in the fallen state of humanity? Today, each of us is living the consequences of that fallen state.
Focus specifically on Romans 1:22-23. How do we see this principle being manifested now? By rejecting God what have humans in our century come to worship and idolize instead? And in so doing, how have they become fools? Bring your answer to class on Sabbath.
Romans 1:22-32 mentioned a specific sin that, almost the whole world through the United Nations is committing against God,I am talking about LGBT,though the verses has made it clear, yet our leaders are unable to show this to various Supreme Courts around the world, who has been approving this LGBT.One thing we must realize is that, human being cannot vote on anything that has already been established by God.
If you have a specific sin that you are fighting against and it is difficult to overcome, all you need to do is,to seek the face of God continuous and one day the Lord himself in his own time will deliver you but don't look your own interpretation from the bible to defend your sins.
What defines morality in a person?
from this lesson i have learnt that morality is defined by how we stand before God , that is the true reason why we act as moral beings is it because we are moral out of fear for punishment from god or we are moral because we have put on Christ and he lives in us. morality is loving God and your neighbor with Christs selfless spirit and not being moral for a show but because it is what one has become
God is the standard. We should seek to be like Him.
We will fall short but we ask for forgiveness, repent and keep going.
The world is not the standard for morality.
No comment😥😥😥😥. May God have mercy on us.
The devil uses the old same tricks to blind humanity. It has become humanity to think beyond our capabilities. The first to fall to this world of fantasy were our first parents in the garden of Eden Genesis 3. The devil promised them perfection which was beyond them. And they fell to this delusion. He Satan knew that perfection is of God only hence his promise: "...you will like be God..." Instead when their eyes opened to this grand deception, they realized they were naked. They had sunk deep into spiritual and physical inferiority. They were ashamed of their appearance. They did not any longer measure up to God’s glorious standard. The living connection they had with God was gone.
Six thousand years since that first lie,the devil persists with that same lie . People still believe we can supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves. The duty of the Christ is still not fully discerned. Without Christ, we maintain our defects. Our own efforts either by means of science and technology or works of the law will not attain us perfection. Perfection is of God alone. "...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
As hideous as some sins are, Jesus is coming back to deal with sin once and for all. All and every sin that remains in a person will be destroyed, along with that person. Sometimes we tend to think that God deals more harshly with some sins over another. We may look down on a murderer or a wife abuser, but give a pass to “little” sins in our lives.
Rom 1:18 reminds us that the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against ALL ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.
Rom 1:31 adds the often overlooked “little” sins – the “undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful.”
And Rom 1:32 adds the serious warning that not only those who practice the list of items in Rom 1:29-31 are deserving of death, … but those who APPROVE of those who practice them. This form of “approval” includes when we look at and enjoy television shows or movies or written material or conversations that glorify those evils - unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, etc.
2 Cor 7:1 admonishes us to "cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
We have choices to make, but we must remember that not all things are good for our salvation, gay/lesbianism are now openly accepted in our societies. may God help humanity.
The world is in turmoil. Wars, voilence human trafficking, the drug trade, corruption at all levels of society. What God condemns, the world says is alright.
The world progressed ....into more sinful, harsh place. No way we've approached perfection. Perfection will come when we reach Heaven.
God is perfect, if we know His character, then we'd see how far we are from the ideal and bad we are in need of His saving grace.
