What God Remembers About Abraham — 7 Comments

  1. Ameen. It's so sad and disheartening how we often times bad mouth our spiritual Leaders/Fathers. God have mercy on us, to be able to tame our tongues when it comes to our spiritual Fathers. Also being gracious to one another cos humans derive pleasure in looking at the negatives than the positives.

  2. So true!
From the time I was born again, God has blessed me with this practice. This is a wonderful way to encourage each other.
I love to great people at church because I am excited to see everyone join us in the service. I also find the Lord guiding me in the foyer after the service in looking for anyone who may need encouragement or prayer. I enjoy the work of the Holy Spirit. May God be blessed for His Son's sacrifice and for sending His Spirit to bring us into His marvelous will.

  3. The subject matter is quite nice and all, but how does--or should--balanced treatment of human failings look?

In the name of "Dwell[ing] on the good qualities," how many times has a gang member's eulogy framed the person as a saint? Certain societal and family cultures mask patterns of poor choices and behaviors. Often because they are masked, they perpetuate across generations. Such can be the case (obvs), but what I do not refer to right now is physical abuse. A few of the behaviors I do mean are suppression of the past in general but especially when the past is not good, emotional shallowness, inadequate conflict management, and insufficient communication. Does the "Dwell on the good qualities" principle even apply when uncomplimentary topics need to be handled?

    • There is a big difference between Abraham, who though flawed had a consistent friendship with God, and the example of the gang member who is portrayed as a saint. I don't think we should pretend that big problems don't exist. I imagine that wasn't what William was focusing on either. He's talking about the ordinary flaws of people who have a heart in the right place.

  4. Thanks brother Pr. William.
That quote, choosing to praise instead of complaining (dwelling upon the good qualities), would make a huge difference in the atmosphere of our home and church.

It´s true that Abram had his flaws, and maybe this is one of the reasons for the Isaac´s quasi sacrifice test. Obviously Abraham´s actions show that his heart had changed from selfish distrust to total trust and surrender. And that is the final diagnosis at the end of his earthly days.
BTW it´s not so in the gang´s member eulogy case.
