Monday: Crucibles of Satan

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 3, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
Man Behind the Cross Hiding from Fire

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8, NKJV). Read the above verse. What’s the message there for us? Ask yourself, “How seriously do I take these words?” What things do you do in your life that show whether you take … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Surprises

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 2, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
Fire

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you” (1 Peter 4:12, NIV). Surprises, painful surprises, can come in many ways. A car veering across the road into your path. A sudden notification that you’re losing your job. A medical test that gives you … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: South American Division ~ Part 1, Possessed at 11

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 30, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar

Part 1: Possessed at 11 By Andrew McChesney Sweat poured down 11-year-old Eduardo’s face as he raced his skateboard back and forth on the street outside his house on a hot summer morning. “Eduardo Ferreira dos Santos!” Mother called. “Come in and take a shower before lunch.” Perspiring and panting, Eduardo headed straight for the … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Thought ~ The Shepherd’s Crucible

Spectacles on Bible

Further Thought: Read Ellen G. White, “Missionaries in the Home,” p. 143, in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4; “The Divine Shepherd,” Pages 476-484, in The Desire of Ages. “Those who are finally victorious will have seasons of terrible perplexity and trial in their religious life; but they must not cast away their confidence, for this is a part of … Continue reading –>

Thursday: A Certain Promise for the Journey

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 29, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
The Good Shepherd Provides Security at Night

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalm 23:6, NKJV). When we are in the valley or surrounded by enemies, it is sometimes tempting to believe that we have been left alone. It does not always feel as though … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Unexpected Detour 2 ~ The Surrounded Table

Enemies Held Back by Angel

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over” (Psalm 23:5, NKJV). Throughout our lives, we will inevitably bump into some enemies. How do you deal with them? Have you ever lain awake at night, tossing and turning, dreaming up ways to take … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Unexpected Detour 1 ~ The Valley

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 27, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
The Good Shepherd Protects Against a Wolf

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4, NKJV). It would be nice if the paths of righteousness wound their way only along the grass-covered banks of cool streams. But that is … Continue reading –>

Monday: Locations on the Journey

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 26, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
The Good Shepherd Finds Good Pasture

“He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3, NRSV). Imagine the “paths of righteousness” (Psalm 23:3) stretching out before you, way out into the distance. You cannot see the end, but you know that at the end of the journey is home, God’s house. As you focus a little closer to you, do you … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
