Thursday: Not for Your Righteousness

Heel of Jesus on Snake's Head

Central to the Christian religion, to all biblical religion, actually, is the great theme of justification by faith alone. “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness” (Romans 4:3). Ellen G. White famously expressed it like this: “What is justification by faith? It is the work of God … Continue reading –>

Little Girl Examining the Wounds in His Hands

One Sabbath afternoon I received a phone call from the mother of a child I had corrected earlier at church. The girl had smarted off to me when I told her to stay out of a room that was off-limits. The mother told me, “My daughter wants to tell you she is sorry, but before … Continue reading –>

Slaves in Egypt

In the book of Deuteronomy, one theme appears and reappears: that of the Lord’s redeeming His people Israel from the land of Egypt. Over and over, they are reminded of what God has done for them: “So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great … Continue reading –>

Girl Reading Scripture is Surrounded by Angels

Skeptics, those looking for reasons to reject the Bible, often point to some strong words of God that appear in the Old Testament. The idea is that the God of the Old Testament was harsh, vindictive, and mean-spirited, especially in contrast to Jesus. This isn’t a new argument, but it’s as flawed now as it … Continue reading –>

Ezra Reads God's Law

The Hebrew nation on the borders of Canaan, God’s chosen people, are finally about to inherit the land that God had promised them. And, as we have seen, Deuteronomy is Moses’ final instructions to the Hebrews before they take the land. And among those instructions were the commands to obey. Read the following texts. What point … Continue reading –>

7: Law and Grace – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 7, 2021 by Michael FrackerNovember 7, 2021Michael Fracker

Key Thought: The law is God’s standard of holiness and righteousness. Violation of the law is sin. It is only by grace that we can be saved. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. November 13, 2021 1. Have a volunteer read Ezekiel 25:15,16.. Ask class members to share a … Continue reading –>

7: Law and Grace – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 7, 2021 by Corinne KnopperNovember 7, 2021avatar

Flipping through the new quarterly, there are a number of titles that have the word ‘love’ in them – Love, to Be Loved; To Love God; He First Loved Us; To Love the Lord Your God; to name just a few. Hence, I believe a wonderful hymn to devote to as a theme will be  … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Law in Heaven

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 6, 2021 by Sabbath School LessonOctober 31, 2021avatar

God is a God of love, and love is the overarching principle of His character and the foundation of His government. And because God wants us to love Him in return, He has created us as moral creatures with moral freedom, the freedom inherent in love. And central to the idea of moral freedom is … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
