Tuesday: The Temptation

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 4, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 14, 2016avatar
Third Temptation

Read Matthew 4:1-12. What happened here with these temptations? Why did Jesus have to go through this? What does this story have to do with salvation? How did Jesus endure such powerful temptations under such hard conditions, and what should that tell us about enduring temptations? Matthew 4:1 starts out with what seems like a … Continue reading –>

2 The Ministry Begins – Discussion Questions

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 4, 2016 by Joyce GriffithApril 4, 2016Joyce Griffith

“Come follow Me…” Our lesson begins by wondering if we all tend to think, sometimes, that we don’t really know why we’re here and what we’re doing where we are. Do you ever sense doubts that deep? Or at least wonder what your purpose in life is? “Another day, another dollar.” Why are we tempted to let ourselves … Continue reading –>

The Matthew Challenge

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 3, 2016 by Maurice AshtonFebruary 13, 2023avatar

We are studying the book of Matthew this quarter. In my Bible, the Gospel of Matthew is twenty-eight pages long and I would like to issue a challenge to our readers to read the Gospel in a week. You could actually read it in a couple of hours on a wet Sabbath afternoon.   We often … Continue reading –>

The Ministry Begins – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 3, 2016 by Michael FrackerAugust 2, 2016Michael Fracker

Key Thought: Matthew presents repentance, victorious living, and discipleship as essential features of the kingdom of God. The Ministry Begins April 2-8, 2016 1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 3:7-12. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.b. What message did John have for the leaders … Continue reading –>

Monday: The Contrast in the Wilderness

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 3, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 10, 2016avatar
Christ in the Wilderness

“Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (Matt. 4:1, NKJV). Imagine this scene from the perspective of Satan himself. The divine, exalted Being whom he knew as the Son of God had now lowered Himself—had taken on human flesh—in order to save the human race. This was … Continue reading –>

Sunday: John the Baptist and “Present Truth”

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 2, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 12, 2016avatar

Matthew 3 begins with John the Baptist, whose first recorded word in the text is an imperative—“Repent!” (Matt. 3:2). In one way, that’s a summary of what God has been saying to humanity since the Fall: Repent, accept My forgiveness, put away your sins, and you will find Redemption and rest for your souls. And … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: The Ministry Begins

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 1, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 7, 2016avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: Matt. 3:1-12; 2 Pet. 1:19; Phil. 2:5-8; Matt. 4:1-12; Isa. 9:1-2; Matt. 4:17-22. Memory Text: “‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people’” (Matthew 4:19, NIV). One of the great struggles of humanity has been to know what the meaning and purpose of … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Thought – The Book of Matthew

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 31, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 8, 2016avatar
Caught Up

Look at this quote from Ellen G. White: “It is thus that every sinner may come to Christ. ‘Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.’ Titus 3:5. When Satan tells you that you are a sinner, and cannot hope to receive blessing from God, tell … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Birth of David’s Divine Son

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 30, 2016 by Sabbath School LessonApril 3, 2016avatar
Gifts for Jesus

Somewhere in the night air between Matthew 1 and Matthew 2, Jesus was born. It likely wasn’t on December 25. Based on the timing of the priest Zechariah’s temple service, scholars suggest that Jesus was probably born in the fall, when sheep were still out in the fields, perhaps in late September or October. It’s … Continue reading –>

Son of David – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 30, 2016 by Curtis HallApril 8, 2016avatar
The Wise Men Journey to Jerusalem

In this week’s lesson on the Son of David I originally planned to focus on the character of Joseph, since he is often marginalized in our discussions of the incarnation of Christ. Mary rightly draws our attention, as it was she who actually carried to birth the long-awaited Messiah. But it was the lineage of Joseph that the … Continue reading –>

God’s Love Wins…Again

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 30, 2016 by Jeffrey CarlJanuary 8, 2025avatar

Raised in the 1960’s and 70’s in a rather typical Seventh-day Adventist home, my five siblings and I were left to picture God as old, cold, and hard. We learned about John 3:16 and that was great, but what always came through to me at the end was that I was bad, I needed to … Continue reading –>

Key Thought: Matthew’s account of Jesus’ birth tells us that God is with us, He brings salvation, and we are called to be the children of God. Son of David, March 26 – April 1, 2016 1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 1:21. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
