Monday: Jesus’ Childhood

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 19, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 25, 2016avatar

Had Jesus bypassed childhood, arriving as a full-fledged adult on planet Earth, serious questions might be raised regarding His ability to identify with children. Christ, however, developed as all children must, skipping none of the developmental stages associated with growth and maturity. He understands teenage temptations. He underwent the frailties and insecurities of childhood. Christ … Continue reading –>

Sunday: The Hebrew Child’s Advantage

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 18, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Hebrew children enjoyed special treatment when compared with their ancient counterparts from surrounding nations. Child sacrifice as divine appeasement had permeated many cultures. Otherwise, children’s value was often measured by their economic contribution to society. Work productivity, not intrinsic worth, defined their relationship with the adult world. It is painful to say, but some of … Continue reading –>

How Youth Groups Can Defeat Their Purpose

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 18, 2014 by William EarnhardtJuly 9, 2014avatar
http://www.goodsalt.com/details/dmtag0097.html?r=ssnet

The Sabbath School lesson on discipling children reminded me of a post someone shared with me on Facebook that really hit home. The article, “Youth Groups Driving Christian Teens to Abandon Faith” mentions that many (not all) church youth groups help teens connect with each other, but fail to connect teens with the church or with God. When … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: Discipling Children

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 17, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: Ps. 127:3-5; Deut. 6:6-7; Luke 2:40-52; Matt. 18:1-6, Matt. 10-14; Mark 10:13-16. Memory Text: Do you hear what these children are saying? they asked him. Yes, replied Jesus, have you never read, From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise? (Matthew 21:16, NIV). In our desire to … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Walking by Faith

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 16, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Rex lay in bed, unable to move his legs. The doctor’s words hung heavy in the air. “You’ll never walk again,” he’d said. What will happen to my family? Rex wondered. Rex knew that his own stubbornness had put him where he was. Two years earlier Rex’s uncle had offered to pay his daughters’ tuition … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Study: Discipleship and Prayer

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 16, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Further Study: Read Ellen G. White, A Reformatory Movement, p. 126, in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9; By Personal Efforts and Living Faith, pp. 244, 245, in Medical Ministry. He who does nothing but pray will soon cease to pray, or his prayers will become a formal routine. When men take themselves out of … Continue reading –>

03: Discipleship and Prayer – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 15, 2014 by Joyce GriffithJune 14, 2016Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for Discipleship and Prayer January 15, 2014] INTRODUCTION. What would you do if by some gigantic supernatural power you were denied the gift of prayer? Of course that can’t happen, but doesn’t the very thought of existing without prayer send a chill down your back? In this week’s lesson we consider the value … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Timeless Compassion Replicated

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 15, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

The sincerest offering of praise is imitation. Christ’s earliest disciples imitated their Master’s prayer life. Naturally they prayed for personal safety, for their daily necessities, and for individual spiritual guidance. Nevertheless, intercessory prayer became an important component of their discipleship. Read Acts 1:13-14; 1 Timothy 2:1-4; James 5:13-16; 1 John 5:16; Jude 20-22; 1 Peter … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Timeless Compassion

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 14, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Christ was the embodiment of perfection; that is, all of God’s perfections were revealed in Him. Thus, was anyone ever more compassionate than Christ? Who possessed a stronger desire than Jesus to alleviate human distress? We, therefore, ask: what relationship did Christ’s compassion and intercession have with discipleship? Read Luke 22:31-32 and John 17:6-26 (see … Continue reading –>

The Arrow of Prayer

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 13, 2014 by Curtis HallJanuary 21, 2014avatar

It was a simple question: “What are you doing here?” Standing in a cave after fleeing for his life, Elijah recounts the lament of his soul. His recent conquests for God appear to have taken a turn for the worse. Feeling alone and confused, this man of great experience, has all but given up and … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 13, 2014 by Michael FrackerJanuary 19, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : There is power in prayer. Through prayer we develop like minds and learn to live and do according to His will. [Teaching plan for Discipleship and Prayer January 13, 2014] 1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 14:22-23. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Timeless Teaching

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 13, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 17, 2014avatar

Prayer miraculously bonds finite souls with their infinite Creator. Prayer is spiritual adhesive. Bonded with the heavenly Father, believers transcend their earthly natures and sinful tendencies. This transformation separates them from the world. Should Satan successfully recast prayer into a self-centered mold, thus robbing prayer of its potential for our transformation, we could be powerfully … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
