Sabbath School Net Posted on February 29, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

Al Brown lived with his wife on the corner less than a block from my house. I spent a lot of time visiting them in their little house on the edge of twenty acres of pastureland.1 You could just get past the door at the Browns’ house before you were in the doorway to the kitchen. … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 22, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

“Can you believe this? They’ve put a week’s lesson on the environment into our church’s lesson study guides.”1 “They have?” Brenda reached the coffee table and found her copy of the guidebook her husband Matt was talking about. She rustled through the pages until she found the one labeled February 18-24. “It doesn’t say anything about the environment, Matt. … Continue reading –>

07: Lord of the Sabbath – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 15, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

Phil and Sherry stared at each other across the after-dinner clutter on the dining room table. “What are we going to do?” Sherry said, her fingers twisting and turning. “Jeremy doesn’t love the Sabbath.”1 “He used to,” Phil said. “Remember when he was thrilled when we told him it was Sabbath and time to get ready … Continue reading –>

06: God the Lawgiver – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 8, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

“Uncle Jim is coming,”  Mom announced one morning. “Whoopee!” “When?” “He should be here any minute. I think that’s him at the front door. Could you let him in, Marcia?” Uncle Jim was tall and lanky. He looked like he could drop a basketball in the net without even stretching. Marcia and her brother Tim … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 1, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

“Hey, Ben. Here’s one for you. How is being an Alaskan salmon like being a Christian?” Mark looked at his friend for two seconds.1 “They both get wet.” “C’Mon, Ben, that was too easy. Where does the Alaskan salmon begin its life?” “Hatched from a fish egg laid in a mountain stream.” “So, Ben. Would you … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
